Well we do know that most of the things attributed to him... walking through water, son of god, born on the winter solstice, died and reborn for our sins are just things attributed to gods all over the world. And in many cases weren't attributed to Jesus till hundreds of years later. I believe the most likely historical jesus was a guy named Apollonius of Tyana. Whether to say that means jesus didn't exist is kinda oversimplifying. You guys should check out Joesph Campbell on the jesus story. It's very intresting.
you should check out Zeitgeist as well: http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ prepare to have you ass handed to you in a tasty morsel form
its just as good as any other theory that is trying to discredit something that spawns ridiculous hallucination's in billions of peoples minds.
Sure they weren't. I still think that good ol' boy was named Jesus of Nazareth (even though... who knows) and that he indeed existed, probably beyond Kna'an. Lots of references to the guy in other religious mythology. Who knows... maybe it's all just a witty allegory that we're just too damn far off to understand. "Yeshua", Jesus in Hebrew, means something along the lines of "Crying to God for salvation". I could probably bullshit a theory about how Jesus is actually a metaphor right now... and make it seem fairly sound too. How do I check the Campbell thing out?
Actually... now that you mentioned the movie... I think that I suddenly see the light. Oh Christ, please take me into thou arms and show me the path to heaven's streets of gold! (It's the Jew in me) Sure thing captain... that is if the used book sites have it.
though i'd love to dismiss pressed_rat's philosophies because of how he presents them, i can't say i don't agree with some of what he has to say. same goes with zeitgeist. i refuse to see either, however, as the bearer of absolute truth... i think that's a healthier statement than "rat's an ass and that movie was shit"
