i also dig airplane's cover of triad - i have a hard time picturing david crosby singing about a threesome, lol!
Hello! I defiantly love Jefferson airplane but I am not into the best band ever thing. I think their song “it’s no secret” is way cool because it shows how simple - and - how deep love can be. Maybe its just me - because I am a male - but it crakes me up ever time I hear that guy say “no man’s an island” and then the other guy says, “he’s a peninsula” Cheers!
hes a peninsula kills me evertime! I read recently that Graces band had a button that read "Great Society doesnt like you very much at all" in response to the JA Loves You buttons. Kantner says thats about the way it was in the band when she joined as well!
same with wooden ships....well, crosby co-wrote it with paul and them, but roger mcguinn of the Byrds wouldnt do that one, either
yeah i would not call Wooden Ships a cover at all. the only covers i can think of are the ones on the 1st album and some of the Blues that Jorma does...
airplane did several covers, even if you dont count that great society did somebody to love and white rabbit first... Rock me baby being the first one that comes to mind for me. Yeah, they are alot of blues tunes, but thats what was going around the scene at the time. Co writing and doing songs others had written was viewed differently then, before the money of ownership was quite such the big deal to those folks.
Yeah i definitely would not call White Rabbit a cover because thats Grace's song. i would put somebody to love in more of a gray area when it comes to covers. it is but it isn't a cover ~~ JOn
i suppose it depends on your definition of what a "cover" is - is it a song already played by another group, or is it a song that the performer didn't actually write? ah well, either way, JA is one groovy group!
For me, seeing as the great society recorded it before Airplane got it, I would call that a cover... not unlike Sabbath doing a cover of Smoke on the Water while Ian Gillan was singing for them... its just a song that the singer wrote and brought with them even tho they had already released it. I guess it is all about the semantics of the term "cover"! Everyone was borrowing each others music, it was more of a compliment then - a nod to influences or giving respect to each other more than stealing.
well grace was on the original song too... though she didn't "write" it the great society version would probably sound different if she wasn't with the band... so she must have had some affect on the song... i don't know
Somebody to Love is probably my favorite song, I haven't really heard any of they're albums, I'm downloading them right now.
oh , i'm crazy about "white rabbit" , i think it's an outstanding song . tobacco road , plastic fantastic lover , leaving on a jet plane and stop children what's that sound are good too .
yes jefferson airplane is one of my favorite band the are awsome man.........my favorite album is Surrealistic Pillow..... i dont know why that album just is cool.
