ive watched fly jefferson airplane so many times! damn its such a good dvd. what was the performance where they were talking about when Jorma and Jack just took off with their playing skills. It showed most of the performance but really centered around that event taking place. First Jack started his bass solo then Jorma came in with this striking force that just took it away into psychedelia. It was amazing. I have recently lost my copy of Fly Jefferson Airplane ( i know! ) so if anyone could tell me which song and performance it was thatd be awsome.
Wow! This is the group. I grew up with Metallica and Nirvana, and the '60s music that was promoted or that I was familiar with was Hendrix and Pink Floyd. Zeppelin, which is more '70s, was also popular. It wasn't till I heard Jefferson Airplane, the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and similar groups that I have come to realize that the artistic aspect of much of rock has been taken away so bands can prove how "hard" they really are. In a way the underappreciation of the group was good for me, because I picked up their best hits for 6 bucks. Jefferson Airplane is described as the best psychedelic band of the '60s, and hearing their vocals, guitarwork, composition, and lyrics has convinced me that this just may be the case. Grace Slick has such a powerful and beautiful voice, perfectly suited to a psychedelic band. Looking at her photos thru Google images, she looks cute too. My two favorite songs are "White Rabbit" and "Let's Get Together." "Lather," while it has its good moments, weirds me out way too much. But it sure did help the group win some hip points in those mushroom and blotter consuming times.
I love lather... it reminds me of my life heh. but yeah if you get the chance pick up the essential jefferson airplane, its 2 discs and its great, there version of wooden ships is amazing.
ya by far their best album to me and will always be, and i know ive said this a number of times on this thread but Bless It's Pointed Little Head is my favorite. Something about their live stuff really shows Jefferson Airplane's true personality and talent. Like the dead, just listening to thier studio work will never bring you into the full experience the band is.
i had two heads stuck in my head today. its a really good song, i love how it transitions into saturday afternoon and wont you try.
martha two heads is good too but when they played live shows they sucked due to grace being so so so so drunk
Airplane is great. I also like some Startship. Good psych. pop rock group of their times. Ther're ahellot better than the freakin Doors. SOme Good Airplane SOngs: Volunteers of America Good Shepard White Rabit Good Jefferson Starship: Jane Good Starship: We built this city. I read patr of Grace Slick's autobiography. Check it out if your into them and you like reading.
Has anyone mentioned "Have you seen the saucers?", bloody good. It was the song that got my dad into psychadelia
I'd say about 1968, cause Casady has longer hair and the Lennon type sunglasses. He really didn't have that when they made Surrealistic Pillow, so I'll say some time after (no pun intended) "After Bathing At Baxters", but probably before "Crown Of Creation".
Thanks.Yes I would agree with you that 1968 sounds about right for that photo. Has anyone seen the Jefferson Airplane performance of: 'Crown Of Creation' on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' September 1968?. It's available on DVD.It's interesting to watch the bad in full vibrant colour with intersped second camera with colour-filtered film of waves crashing in the sea etc. & one year ago, this month, we said farewell to the band's stylish & enigmatic drummer: Spencer Dryden.
Jefferson Airplane. Man, I love Grace Slick and Marty Balin. I think my favorite song (and it is tough to decide) may be "Rejoyce".
yeah, i absaloutly love the airplane! I'm 15 and i've really just started discovering this amazing stuff. it's crazy what treasures are buried out there!
jefferson airplane is amazing. the other day i purchased the "fly jefferson airplane" DVD. It is just great, i recommend it to any Airplane fans. my favorite album is after bathing at baxsters...I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.
I did see the performance of "Crown Of Creation" on Ed Sullivan. I saw a tv performance of "Somebody To Love". The lip-synching was so bad. Grace Slick didn't have a microphone, so she sang into a plug, Paul Kantner forgot his 12-string, so he layed down on the floor for the whole performance, Spencer Dryden just shook a tambourine, and Marty Balin just banged away chords on a Vox or Farfisa organ.
