well, he ate them without any mayo or anything that makes a sub worth eating. flavorless chicken on too much lettuce with flavorless veggies. if i'm going to splurge on some fast food, i'm getting a sandwich elsewhere.

i do sympathize with him, though. like i said, once those fat cells are made, they just wait around for you to screw up, JUST ONCE.

you know, i read a study about how people who have very limited diet options eat less and stay thinner than people with loads of options. i think that's part of the trouble with the usa, since there's a restaurant on every sticking corner. the nice thing about being broke is that i never get to go out. can't very well buy soda if you have no money. you have to spend your money on the shit that's gonna get your through. of course, there's a fine line: ramen noodles CAN make you fat, it that's all you eat. your body shuts down.

well, i don't know the study your talking about, but i think it holds some truth.

the problem with the US is not that we have tons and tons of options, its that we have tons and tons of foods that lack micro-nutrients. all the premade meals(hungry man, lean cusine, and such other products), packaged and boxed foods is what the problem is - people buy that, instead of a diversity of fresh veggies, fruits and meats.

I think the study may reflect self-fulfilling prophecy... If we didn't patronize restaurants to that level of profitability then the market wouldn't support the many options we have. In general, restaurant food is meant to taste good, not be good for you. So many families are over-the-top busy these days that meal preparation has gone out the window in favor of oh-so-convenient fast food.

I get the sense that many otherwise intelligent normal adults do not take charge of their health and well-being assuming that it's the government's job to make sure everything in the commercial food supply is wholesome. That leads me to think that many folks willingly lead themselves to the low-grade poisons proffered for the purpose of fattening bottom lines. That waist lines are fattened is of no consequence to the corporations... they just keep dishing out what everyone wants... at a tidy profit.

That Jared is rejoining the portly platoon is hardly a surprise to me- if one is going to base a diet on calorie counting then one will fall into the diet's inevitable trap. A restrictive diet communicates biologically that food is scarce. The body responds by slowing metabolism and storing a greater portion in one's intake as fat. Proper nutrition is less about calorie restriction and more about calorie composition... where are they coming from?

Jared would be well advised to ditch his Subway habit and learn about sustaining himself with whole foods.
