Ah, but water isn't dangerous! I have a glass of it right on my desk! See, it's not even moving! I can even drink some of it without ill effects!

So there is no danger folks... just keep moving along, nothing to see here... it's only water. Water is SAFE, don't let those water haters tell you otherwise!

    - This message brought to you by the water industry...

Somehow I doubt other reactors globally will be shut down after this accident. Man has a way of thinking "it happened to them, won't happen to me."

There is no author of harm. All physical phenomena are transient but we are engrossed in having Vanna turn over another letter or asking to buy a vowel.

Let's see, so far Germany has now put on hold its recent decision to allow Germany's old nuke plants (like the ones in Japan) to continue in operation another 10 years. This was a done deal before the tsunami. Last Saturday was a huge anti-nuke protest in Berlin over this very issue.

Switzerland now says it will review the status of all its nuke plants before allowing any more to go thru the approval process.

I think the US has or is thinking about doing exactly the same.

Whether these reviews will result in any operating nuke plants being shutdown remains to be seen. But the worse this situation becomes, the less likely it is for these types of reactors to stay in service.

Time to put all this nuke money into renewable non-polluting sources of energy!

This is what I want to see happen. I would be nice if we could learn from this and concentrate on finding something better.

Are these meltdowns in anyway connected to that Sheen meltdown we've been witnessing?

    And talking about chain reactions...

Think about this chain reaction...A huge quake far underneath the surface of the ocean sets off a tsunami, which slams into the coast of Japan, sweeping away most man-made trifles, and taking out parts of a nuclear plant that has several reactors with their own chain reactions going on... Then one by one, pumps start failing providing vital cooling water to the reactors... The water vaporizes exposing dangerous radioactive rods containing uranium and plutonium... They flood the reactors with sea water, which releases hydrogen, which then gets released into the outside air, and upon contacting oxygen there are huge explosions that destroy the secondary containment buildings...and it's not over yet...

So hows that for a chain reaction of events, all of it beyond human control (or made worse due to human stupidity).

But don't worry folks, it's all UNDER CONTROL! They meant to do that. They study every scenario, including this one, no doubt and they made sure such scenarios would never present a problem or danger to anyone...

Yes, some say there is nothing to worry about. Like the plant director of the San Onofre nuclear power plant who was just interviewed on CNN who said his plant could withstand a bigger quake than what hit Japan... Of course San Onofre is located right on a fault line by the sea with a 32 foot high seawall...

Experts now say this crisis is worse than Three Mile Island. So this is now the second worse nuclear plant disaster ever.

It says one of these coastal towns were ravished by a tsunami 80 years ago. What on earth possessed them to rebuilt the town in the same place is what I am thinking??

I guess maybe back then they didn't have the knowledge to realise there was a significant chance it could happen again, or the transport to access the sea which they would have used for fishing probably..

How come they dont build nuclear reactors on battle ships, Morn them up to the land... when trouble comes, disconnect and drift them out to sea.. Like an Aircraft carrier.. *im just being silly really*, but it makes sense in my little brain.

Over 500,000 people in shelters who need food and water. The quake and tsunami is making indonesia look like a field trip.

It sounds like the death toll is going to exceed all others before it.

No matter what they say, it can never be enough. As Ive said before. They can call "all safe" but how safe is that now this is on shaky ground. It will happen again. Ultimately it has to be the End of nuclear energy there.

If not, Will you live there>?..

A nuclear specialist was on the news saying that the radius safe zone (that is 12 miles in Japan and 10 in the US) is way under. A US Navy battleship east out at sea was over 60 miles and got warning signs of radioactivity. They moved ASAP.

CNN is reporting that the inner containment unit of reactor #2, is the third reactor to blow, releasing high radiation. The outer containment has not blown, but may be leaking. Things are going downhill fast, apparently...

And the real scary part is that they "don't know where the radiation is going"

Appears to be (for the philosophy of Nature) one grand experiment of a "cloud chamber"; (for the philosophy of science) a judgment of molecular bombardment for further testing.:mickey:
