I wish it would get cold enough here to at least totally wipe out/kill the fleas in the house. Even tho' I haven't encountered any lately, I know it hasn't gotten cold enough to do squat about that. :(

Lynn, one of the nurses at the vet's office told me that she'd gone to a seminar and found out that it would have to stay under 20F for three weeks, or something similar, to kill fleas. That's indoors. You don't want to wish that.

OH LORD!!! I had no idea it would take all that.

Up until 3 or 4 years ago it seemed like it always got cold enough to kill those buggers. DANG! :cuss:

Fleas are easy to get rid of, just get the right mediation that you place on the base of their necks. Now, if you are going to be stupid and allow them outside then do not bother with the medication. My cat is an indoor cat and she has NEVER had fleas.

Well, you are lucky. I now have 2 inside cats...both were given Frontline for months and months to no avail! They are now given Pet Armor, which is supposed to be the same as Frontline, but not as expensive and sold only at Wally World. At this point, I plut this on them because I just think I need to do this.

I had a cat (who is now gone) that would get physically ill every single time I put any of that stuff on her.

Aside from the dog almost having a nervous breakdown when he gets his flea medicine, it does no good on him either.

I sometimes wonder if we don't have some genetically modified fleas here.

That's the thing. Dogs have to be let outside to do their thing. The dog is the one bringing the fleas in.

I do no know what to say about the flea medication not working. I used it a few times until I realized my cat simply does not get fleas.

Oh yeah - I forgot to address the "if you're going to be stupid...bla bla bla" sentence.

No, neither cat EVER goes outside. The dog goes in the back yard to explore and do his business, and that is it. However, with this medication, I've was told by vets that should work. Yet, it doesn't.

Lynn, I've never had any luck with Frontline. Advantage brand is the only one I've found to work on these "southern fleas".

True story: About 6 years ago, after the downstairs cat was gone, I discovered we had fleas in/on the concrete floor. NO carpeting down there. I set off 3 flea bombs down there, and STILL HAD damn shitting fleas. The next day, I set off 3 MORE. That STILL DID NOT kill them. :cuss:

The next weekend I did it again. For 2 more years, every 6 months I would set off flea bombs.

    They aren't there now.

Glad to hear that, Aeri. You know, Frontline is supposed to be The Real McCoy! I'm going to have to see if our traveling vet carries Advantage.

And yes, southern fleas are some serious stuff. :(

I had some luck with sprinkling salt on the carpets and letting it stay overnight. It slices their tiny bodies to shreds.
