i've loved "work me, lord"ever since i saw it on the woodstock movie. i think cry baby is pretty cool too, and down on me
i dig the lyrics of "work me, lord" - the horns do tend to drag on a bit at times, but her delivery of the song is sublime! she was such a pro at interpreting a tune, but i think i've said that already, lol - i must mean it, man!
Me & Bobbie McGee was one of her signature songs. But her renditions of Summertime and Piece of My Heart, at Woodstock, 1969 was one of the highlights of her short-lived career. You can really feel Janis give her all in her performance and connect to her audience.
Janis is the best!!! i don't have one fav song...there are soo,soo many! cry baby is just one of them
mary jane is a great tune, but Janis never covered the rollerskate song - that's rampant misinformation that has been on the 'net for years....melanie did the tune, not Janis
Move Over Me and Bobby mcgee Combination of two Piece of my heart (although it's cover) Marcedez Benz
Bobby McGee is a cover as well - Roger "King of the Road" Miller had already covered Kristofferson's song before Janis ever did it.......a great singer like Janis can take anyone's song and make it sound like their own
one of my fave aspects of Janis is that she knew not only how to write and play, but also to choose songs already written. She knew how to use her voice as an instrument, and how to pick and arrange a song to its fullest. Good stuff!
either "Ball and Chain" live at Monterey Pop (gives me the chills EVERY TIME) or "Work Me, Lord" from Woodstock (yup, chills there, too). But I really like "Combination of the Two". It just rocks.
when i was in a dance company, i did my solo to Janis' "Summertime"...it was killer, if i do say so myself
Aaaaaaah Janis Joplin.....my FIRST lady of rock!!! Can't do without her! My fave has gotta be HALF MOON. Courtesy of the JJ Estate....thank you Michael and Laura Joplin
