if you like jefferson airplane go buy bathing at baxters its the best album ever but its hard to find (i didnt know you were the one for me , but you were waiting , for some one, to come along ,pick you up and sing you a song ... and i was changing
I have every single cd and every single song is amazing. and when you try and tell me that grace is better than janis you must have serious problems. janis was unrestrained, and gave everything she had in evry single song. if grace slick did that she wouldnt be able to talk right now, but she can.
Name one jefferson airplane song where she sings with half as much soul as janis does in any given song. in no way am dissing grace she is second to janis but she is no where near her level.
What in the hell are you talking about? Janis would not have been able to talk if she were alive right now because she put so much into her songs. At the rate she was singing her career would have ended within 10 years after her death anyway, becuase she sang so loud. Grace on the other hand is alive and she can speak, therefore she didnt put as much compassion and soul into her singing.
The louder the better, is that what your saying? I don't see how that is so... Watch American Idol and you'll see what I mean.
OMG are you serious? have you never heard her sing or something. it IS screaming but it is no way shape or form anything like anything near american idol. it's frickin beautiful
Well, I did say a page back... So, answer to your question, yes I've heard it. But I don't really like her voice. I thought it was a guy the first time I heard one of her songs. (A piece of my heart)
I love Janis... She was beutiful and soulful and freespirited. I wish she was still alive so I could marry her... Well, maybe I wouldn't marry ehr because she would be like in her early 60's probably and be almost old enough to be my grandma. But I still love her voice. I don't think that comparing Janis and Grace is a fair comparison. That is like comparing a ford explorer and an amtrack train, or a dog and a giraffe. They are nothing alike except that they are both female vocalists. Grace sung psychadellic rock, and Janis sung a bluesy-rockish soul type of music.Grace sang with a lot of power, but Janis sung with a lot of soul and emotion in her voice. She once made a comment saying something along the lines that she HAD to get into it, and just let completely go of herself, otherwise she is no good. But to me, comparing Janis and Grace makes about as much/little sense as comparing Jim Morrison and Bob Dylan... My favorite Janis song would be Another Piece Of My Heart, and Me and Bobby McGee. Honorable mention also goes to Son of a Preacher Man.
Hmm. I love how this thread started out as "who loves Janis" and now shifted to camparing Janis and Grace. I agree with most of you saying you can't compare the two ... they really were from two different worlds of music. My favorite Joplin song would have to be Kozmic Blues, without a doubt. I hear that song and I just get a huge smile on my face that won't go away. Good summertime jam. Now my favorite Grace Slick song (Jefferson Airplane) would have to be ... hmm ... tough one. The Ballad of you and me and Pooniel, or House at Pooniel Corner, or Today. They'er all really good tunes.
Hard to pick favourite- especially with people like Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. And Janis could sing pretty good without her trademark screaming- her "Mercedes Benz" was pretty good. Grace though, has songs like "Lather". It's hard to pick... can't we just love them both the same?
