Part of me thinks I should try and start up a guiding service.. i know a handful of waters that can produce a fish on any given day... seems like easy money to watch someone else catch fish

might as well give it a shot. do you post on any fishing forums? you could probably just advertise on there + craigslist/kijiji to see if it's worth investing some cash into.

so they can make art that isn't awful
edit: i mean every good musician goes to a conservatory to gain perspective on the real scope of music, instead of just pretending their limited perspective is enough to produce truly artistic music. Anyone can play guitar, but good guitar players learn everything there is to know about music. That doesn't mean you need a degree, but if you don't go to art school you're basically a toddler trying to reinvent the wheel.

Nah helll! Depends what you're doing - I agree if it's something like Fine Art because that is a bit of a pointless area, but if you go into things like graphic design, illustration, textiles, photography it leaves you with a lot of opportunities. Plus whilst you're on the course you get to meet loads of contacts and possibly get some work experience.
I'm doing Illustration which I'm hoping is gonna broaden my style because you're so much more motivated to do work due to the deadlines. I'm the worst at procrastination, so I never get anything done unless I know I have to :p
And I get that piece of paper at the end of it. It can go a long way cos it's a horribly cut-throat industry, and that'll make a huge difference between you and someone who doesn't.. I hate the fact that I need to waste the cash on a "stamp", but fuck it :p

But dude, my works up in an album on my profile - will appreciate views and any feedback! There's some more in the art thread but I can't be assed linking it :p I'm getting annoyed though because I can't break out of the kinda "rigid" style, the work doesn't flow as I'd like.. I want it more fluid and psychedelic :p Kinda more like the pic I drew on shrooms - which was a fucking amazing experience!

    hello everyone....picking on the artist i see lol....sorry i missed it.....jk

dude....did you draw your sig pic?.....the artist at my old tee shirt company made mega dough...way over a 100 grand a year and the fucker took mondays and most fridays off.....i have seen him do a quick color separation and adjustment on a shirt job and make 100 dollars in about 7 minutes....the program cost 5000 and it had to be smuggled across the border like drugs.....

Hah! damn! That'd be nice, but I'd feel guilty about making that much money for doing nothing haha

And yeah, it was my A level final piece :D
Pretty happy with it, but the the trees don't really sit on the ground properly, the distance is weird.. but hey, still pretty chuffed :p

Digital killed the art degree... everyone and anyone can be a photographer or "artist" these days with digital cameras and photoshop and other photo enhancement tools and drawing programs...

I think everyone is an artist, some just need to find their medium...

Really, how is it different using a paintbrush (a tool) to paint, or using a computer (also a tool) in terms of wether or not it is artistic?

Should finger painters claim that the mona lisa isn't real art because a brush (a tool) was used to do it?

in a professional aspect though... digital cameras killed the skilled photographer.. you don't need to know iso.. f-stop... aperture.. you just go "oh im outside" *turns to outdoor setting* clickclickclick

I don't think so at all, if anything it's created a new class of photography. Since digitals came out, to be good you have to be really really good and completely understand your camera, know how to gauge the light to create the best moods and atmospheres - and then know how not to overdo those elements. Then there's also being able to position the layout of the shots and to make sure that nothing's growing out of peoples heads.. shit like that. There's a lot of work involved to make a photograph not just a picture.
Browse the deviantART categories, and compare the most popular to the newest. There's a huge difference in quality, which is why I love the arts because they're just infinite. As soon as something steps up the benchmark, people progress from that and take things even further :p

Edit: Just checked your profile, you probably know all that shit - nice jewellery, and photographs of them :p But still, they haven't killed the skilled - just urged the skilled to get even better.
