I've been trying to come to terms with the fact that...

...because such thoughts and feelings have been conditioned and engrained into humans for so long, maybe?

For example, my dogs hunt pretty little rabbits and toss them up into the air like dolls. If morals were indeed a common thing, shouldn't the dogs feel bad?

The idea that all morals are subjective, is a bit more meaningful I think, then some divine authority commanding it.

I mean, if murder was bad was something a god or a golden rules said to us, then what place do they have in the 21st century.

But if these rules are something we come together to decide for the whelbeing of everyone, then they are well thought out and for the good of us all, not archaic set in stone 10 commandment sort of things.

Well, our conscience is supposed to be what separates us from "animals." Finding our conscience supposedly lead to great human evolution.

Yeah, I realised how dumb and veggie-ish the dog thing sounded after I hit reply. :p

Maybe all humans are in fact Gods, since we have a conscience whereas other animals do not.

I don't know. I'm working on not caring, too. :D

Well, that's what I believe. I could not not feel any remorse or forgiveness if I committed a murder. Perhaps I've been conditioned by society. I just believe most humans cannot commit violent crimes without any feeling. I don't know, generally I would be against conditioning of the numan minds, but even if that's how the basic laws were determined it's more than fine by me.

But I completley understand what you're saying. I just can't believe it.

I'm trying to not care, but it's kind of hard. Not that I'm all sad that the earth will die: I don't care. But I just keep trying to figure out what the hell this world is. And if you want to know the honest truth, I'm now more inclined to believe that this world is fake than that's it's real. The absurdity of it all just blows me away... it can't be real.

Is that a sign of insanity? :D

In your eyes, does it really matter? :p

But what you say is more than enough to justify anybody's belief in any religion/God. :D

    exactly.

everyone needs to come to their own conclusions on the purpose of life, whether it's serving a god or not. Everyone's opinion is valid:p

I think a lot of our "morals" stem from our lack of ability to make tough decisions. For example, a dull man will always believe that his government is good even if he is shown definitive evidence to the contrary, for if he were to admit that his government is corrupt, he would have to make a decision. If he does nothing, he will be seen as a coward and someone who does not stand for liberty. If he fights his government, he is putting his life in danger. Therefore, a dull man would rather ignore it all so as to avoid the decision alltogether.

The same idea applies to our "morals." I'll use murder again as an example. It is truly easier to allow a moral to decide for us whether or not murder is wrong. If you asked a Christian man if murder is wrong, he would say, "yes." If you asked why, he would say, "because the Bible says so." The man is too dull to make such a decision for himself and must allow someone else to answer for him. There are too many pros and cons to weigh for most people to make a decision like this. They just can't handle it.

I'm not saying I believe in God, by the way. I'm saying I think this world is a sham. :)

Try this on for size an Indian friend of mine told me he thought that since humans only use around 3 percent of their brain someone a long time ago learned how to use the remaing percent. So in turn using all of this brain power(since your brain works on "man made electric pluses") the person telepathicly made the image of god. So in turn when people think really hard or meditate on something they seem 2 have god-like power i.e pulling a train or lying on a bed of nails or Criss Angel haha. So called miracles (according to him) are only people who temporary use more than 3 percent of thier brain i.e. someone praying for a family member with a rare cancer who is certain to die only to have the cancer "disappear" the next day.

so everything will eventually become nothing... why does that make it less meaningful? what would meaningful be? if at the end, you were part of a universal slideshow of Things That Mattered? who would be there to care? why do you even CARE if you're "significant"? what does significance mean, how can you measure it? if you have no comparison, no idea of what a "point" to all of this is, how can it be "pointless"? what changed?

i think the fact that it's all gonna disappear is amazing. it makes me feel really lucky to be here right now. i'm part of something really big... the history of the universe. i was there ;).

there is this crazy notion in everyones heads that time = value. if something lasts forever, that means it's "good". but NOTHING lasts forever, and it seems like the greatest things are always tiny, insignificant, and short-lived.

so why don't we go around killing people? because there are so many mountains and trees and ideas and songs and sunsets and cupcakes to absorb into our database of things that exist before all of it just vanishes. there's better stuff to do.

Well, however human life on Mars is still unrealistic, we can be sure that our sun will still be here after we're gone.

For another few billion years or so.
Which, in the span of infinity, is basically nothing.
