I'm a proud member, thanks. Norml is a great organization. Besides contributing to thier fund, there are TONS of ways you can make a difference. They give wonderful tips on how to convey the message to our government.

    But they need more voices!!!!

No it probably won't do any immediate good. But, if it raises conciousness, and makes it on the evening news for 30 seconds, at least maybe we've succeeded in making another person or two think about it, and if that person does something and makes more people think about it,...well you see where I'm going.

the bible hugging comment was uncalled for IMO, but again, why are you arguing such petty points when there is so much to be discussed?

I still want to know why you think nothing will ever change even if the American public starts banding together?

I'm trying to have a real discussion here. No insults out of me, just questions. THis is somehtng I truley believe in and I'm trying to get people's opinions and why they think that way. No harm in that.

Having a bad day, or something? jeez...

hun, I never ever said that you weren't allowed to state your opinion. I'm glad someone here is on the other side of the argument and I'm just trying to probe deeper as to WHY you feel that way.

But really, why am I being so annoying? I'm asking quesitons and if you don't like them, you don't have to answer them.

I meant for this thread to be educational. :(

but I'm really not trying to piss anyone off. I was just curious.

All I'm trying to do is let people know what's going on and get all the facts. I like to hear different opinions. I never tried to be insulting or pushy.

I care about the cause here. I care about the people who rely on marijuana to ease the pain from cancer or MS. I care about those people who need it to eat, or for chronic pain. A lot of people are about to suffer and I'm just trying to raise awareness.

Sorry (again) is I offended, but I was just asking WHY. It's more important to me to hear people's opinions than to bicker over what sort of attitude I have when I ask questions.

Unfortunately, this isn't an issue where democratic processes, strength in numbers etc, will prevail based on the current system of drug policy in our government.

I went to what was supposed to be the largest marijuana rally in the country last May in NYC - one of the many simultaneous ones organized by Dana Beal. The founder of High Times was there and numerous other pro-pot 'celebrities'. How many people do you think showed up? maybe 1000 in NYC a city of 10 million. The fact is that it is still a very small minority of people in this country who are willing to openly express their views about marijuana.

Even if there were 100,000 though it currently would not matter. Marijuana is a drug and is handled just as any other drug, with what government medical experts feel to be true

“Our national medical system relies on proven scientific research, not popular opinion. To date, science and research have not determined that smoking marijuana is safe or effective,” John Walters, director of National Drug Control Policy, said Monday.

That tells me that even Congress has very little power to combat this judgement on behalf of their constituents.

ok so there aren't enough people that are open about thier views. Then one of the first (of many!) steps that need to be taken is to open people up more. We need to crush the fear the government has instilled in the general public.

"you can't own and make money off a patent for medicine in this country, unless the medicine has chemicals in it. If it's all natural ingredients, you can't patent it. Maybe that's why we don't have access to a cure for cancer or AIDS, or why the health food store I go to keeps getting harassed by federal authorities for selling herbal medicines." Jello Biafra

like I said though, its not a matter of public opinion. If it was a matter of public opinion, than this would be a case put before Congress. This is a judicial matter based upon scientific facts. Every damn person in this country can say, "I believe medicinal marijuana should be legal", but it won't matter ONE BIT until there is overwhelming scientific evidence that the drug is beneficial. Its the same thing as Prozac or any other drug - the FDA needs to sign off on it. 280 million americans in the street won't change a thing. The only thing that will is like I said, overwhelming scientific evidence.

I don't believe pot will be legalized, but however how I see it in 10 or mabye 20 years things will change think-all the politicians that are in office today, had grown up during the 60's and 70's they saw all the drugs and didn't like it, but I do believe when our generation comes into office, things will change, becuase i do believe our generation is more accepting towards drugs-
-thats just my theory in short words i didn't feel like explaining
