a guy i work with always downloads new movies online. he said he got an email from his internet provider that he will lose service if he continues to do so.

    that just seems really fishy.

i have heard of alot of people getting these letters recently
they must of found a way to get around the firewalls the hackers had to keep their identities hid

i stream movies instead of downloading

apparently its not illegal to stream because its just a bit of info at a time and not a complete file

i have no idea if thats true or not

I beg to differ wyld....you aren't hacking a movie when you download the torrent...the illegal act is downloading a copyrighted material...most of those movies are cams shot in theaters or rips of promotional copies....no hacking takes place...a quick search of ''warning letters to internet users'' will explain it

    Dear Comcast High-Speed Internet Subscriber:

Comcast has received a notification by a copyright owner, or its authorized agent, reporting an alleged infringement of one or more copyrighted works made on or over Comcast's High-Speed Internet service (the 'Service'). The copyright owner has identified the Internet Protocol ('IP') address associated with your Service account at the time as the source of the infringing works. The works identified by the copyright owner in its notification are listed below. Comcast reminds you that use of the Service (or any part of the Service) in any manner that constitutes an infringement of any copyrighted work is a violation of Comcast's Acceptable Use Policy and may result in the suspension or termination of your Service account.

If you have any questions regarding this notice, you may direct them to Comcast in writing by sending a letter or e-mail to:

    Comcast Customer Security Assurance
    Comcast Cable Communications, LLC
1800 Bishops Gate Blvd., 3rd Floor East Wing
    Mount Laurel, NJ 08054 U.S.A.

I got like four emails in a month when I had comcast, I think that month I probably seeded around a terabyte of movies but I noticed that most of the complaints to my ISP against my IP address was for the same movie. In the letter it said they did not disclose my identity to them. I know they won't do anything either I have spoken with people in person that work for ISPs, they may say they are gonna do it but it really requires that u call them and turn it back on .. Don't know if there's a fee for that but basically u have organizations like the RIAA and DMCA that pretend to be a legit seeder and then they can get all the ip addresses from the torrent tracker for people that have that file or chunks of it and are sharing it cuz that's how torrent works but a whois against ur IP address is only gonna tell u the ISP .. So they complain to that ISP about the addresses of users they 'caught' and so they have to say something to u because they're supposed to "do something" about it. They don't want to lose a paying customer either cuz the warez d00dz file sharing are the ones that get the top level service cuz they like speed.

There's things u can do to reduce ur likelihood of getting caught tho, I've never used proxies or anything like that with BitTorrent cuz I like downloading at > 100Mbps. Stop seeding a torrent as soon as it's finished if it's copyright infringement .. The way they catch u tho is by pretending to be a seed, they have that file so u download a chunk from them and they see ur connection and put it on a list.

I also think there are some baited torrent files too, the people trying to catch u actually made the file available in the first place

    hack·er
    ˈhakər/
    noun
    1.
a person who uses computers to gain unauthorized access to data.
synonyms: cybercriminal, pirate, computer criminal, keylogger, keystroke logger; More
    informal
an enthusiastic and skillful computer programmer or user.
    2.
a person or thing that hacks or cuts roughly.

I used the word correctly where I was using it ....it is the same as pirate , reproducing work without permission.... gaining unauthorized access to data...

You can beg to differ all you want why are you trying to prove me wrong in something I stated and it is clear what I'm saying

The hackers meaning the people who are illegally downloading the material ...

I liked you again here but be aware strange stuff is happening and it could disappear again. NOT because I did it. :)

One right now needs to approach posting as a random thing, it is going to work or not and may be gone by tomorrow. ;)

Got to admit it is funny to read some of those random posts right now as they are usually so out of context that it is hilarious.
