I have an English Mastiff and they are called "gentle giants" for a very good reason; they are. I am curious why anyone would think a Mastiff is aggressive. Big? Yeah they are, but not mean.

People that euthanize a healthy and adoptable pet are are the bottom rung of humanity and deserve the same fate they inglict on animals! Animals are here to love and to be loved and should be appreciated for the joy they bring.

Where i'm from there was a couple who "moved", so to speak, where ever i think out of state. and they left their dog or dogs in the boiling heat last yr. a driver passing by the street that was just driving by the house at the time seen the abandoned house and seen the puppy without any food nor water and was on a leash in their on locked up backyard. So he called up the SPCA. Well turns out they caught the ppl and they were charged and put in jail i believe and charged with animal abuse and abandoned property, and some other things. But that is so cruel. I would take animals in but i have such a small apt.

I agree with you completely! Just as any case with euthanasia. I can see where shes coming from tho. She was probably afraid that she would give them to someone who would hurt them, or a shelter where her older dog would have probably not been adopted out. But I dunno euthanasia still is quit extreme regardless of her reasoning... Personally.

I work for the OSPCA, It's not a easy job, the problem is that just because someone doesnt take care of there pet doesnt mean that we hear about it, we need people to call in tips, we arent mindreaders! And we arent a government funded shelter, which means sometimes we have kill policies because we dont have the room or the money to take care of them all. It's important to bring home sogs from the SPCA rather then going to breeders. I just brought my fav home, and now I have a 'red zone' Dobie/great dane X that I love

I have been pretty active with animals for quite a few years and am glad to see that things are changing. Slowly but surely. I have seen a lot of sad things and have actually had to euthanize some animals when I worked for a humane society. The problems are numerous. We hated to have to do it but there would be no room and some animals would be there so long with no one interested in giving them a home. Some became cage crazy. I no longer work for them but do volunteer. We foster animals when we can.

Sometimes unforseen things happen and pets can't be taken care of so set up someone to be a guardian now and there won't be any problems later.

Don't breed or buy while homeless ones die.

Spay and neuter. (that's a biggee)

I hear that adoptions and spaying and neutering has become so successful in California that they have not had to resort to euthanasia in a few years. Also, they have been able to take homeless animals from other places and find them homes.
