ok. i worked in the medical field for a while, and this is what i know. plasma is indeed very needed, as it helps make the medications for hemophiliacs and people suffering other types of blood diseases to be able to live a semi-normal life. are there risks to you? yes. especially over long term "donation." plasma is the part of your blood that contains the water, proteins, amino acids, and antibodies that are essential for survival. can you live without a little bit of it? yes. is it good for you to repeatedly give lots of it? not really. will you die? doubtful. could it make you more at risk for getting minor illnesses (colds, etc)? oh yes. i'm not saying keep it up or stop. that has to be your decision. but the things you need to know about how to keep your body healthy while you're doing the plasma selling are this. drink TONS of water. i'm talking a gallon plus a day. if you're sucking that much water out of your body directly through the blood 2x a week, you need to drink lots of water. stay away from alcohol and over the counter pain medications while you're donating. they fuck with the composition of minerals, salts, and other things in your body that are needed, and they make it more difficult for your body to bounce back. your body needs to concentrate on bouncing back from the repeated plasma donation. get plenty of protein, and plenty of sleep. this will help your body replenish itself. also make sure you get enough salt, as it is an excellent way to help your body work out its electrolyte balance. by salt, i mean good for you salt, like sea salt. not that iodized table salt shite. that's not worth wiping your ass with. do not smoke. period. in short, just take extra good care of your body while you're doing this. eat healthy meals, with lots of fruits and veggies. don't eat a lot of fats and sweets. drink lots of water. in general, if you're a healthy young person who takes good care of yourself, you should be just fine continuing to give plasma.
i'm sure NTH knows more than anyone else here having been in the med field, so that's probably your best advice right there. i do know a few people who have been twice a week donors for years straight and haven't had any problem with it. and a majority of the people that go are crackheads or other various addicts and homeless, so while the personal care NTH recommended will surely help, it is not absolutely necessary. like i just said, it's mostly crackheads. they aren't going to turn down a potential customer over some pot...
the personal care i recommended isn't life or death, no. but it's definitely something that will help keep you healthy. otherwise, there's a high likelihood you could get quite rundown and feel like shite. which may not seem like anything more than just wanting an extra cup of coffee in the morning, but it's really your body saying "i'm run down, i need extra sleep and water and healthy food." just listen to what your body tells you, and try and stay as healthy as possible, and you should be fine.
If they turned away the drunks and pot smokers, they would hardly be anyone there, seriously. They do check your arms for cuts and bruises though.. if so, you'll just be deffered until they heal.
My dad can't donate anymore because in Canada you aren't allowed to donate if you lived in England in the 80s due to mad cow. I can't donate either because I was born there in 87, I moved to canada in 89 so it's a piss off. Because I actually know that I didn't injest red meat until I moved here but whatever.
Yeah you guys are lucky you get paid to donate. Here they give you some liquids and treats and you're off. Sounds like a nice little source of side income.
It's not really donating though when you get paid for it, is it? It's just like selling any other product.
Gravity, in honor of your so many donations, I will get off my ass and go and donate. It's been a while for me, but I really do need to go back and give more. lus they do give gift cards for different restaurants.
I agree. I don't think my evil satin loving hethen blood should go in to a pure and god-fearing Christan.
