I said a bit earlier, I don't see how society can be called a cult, since the definition and understood meaning of the word "cult" requires a position relative to society. In short, a cult is a societally non-accepted religion. If we were talking about a specific society, we could maybe make some kind of argument, and the OP does seem specifically geared towards one very specific kind of society. However, I can't tell from the context whether they are referencing a specific society, or whether they are wrongly assuming that all societies are similar because it happens to support what they're saying.
...And what if aliens greeted us, before or after we were one culture? Woud they be our friends? Yes---they would----they would give us all blankets, and then we'd all become deathly sick with some disease we have no immunity against, and as we die off they would take over our land and steal our precious water... Well, we can always hope that if they achieved instellar space travel, that they are weel advanced beyond that stage of domination... Is society a cult? Not really---it is a collection of institutions. The cult, as we use the term today, is an epitomy of the institution. Institutions have various qualities of the cult without going so far as to achieving that cult status. So sit back, relax, and snuggle up in your alien-provided blanket...
My question is: how does one conclude in a mild mannered way that the bus driver is the bigot on this Iranian pipeline concept? And as for cults: they are ruled by no one, and a re all inclusive to the Whole. The bus driver unfortunately belonged to a marginal society. _________________________________________________ Death to John Ashcroft.
