Is it wrong to emphasize how much smarter you are than others?

    Common knowledge:

Jet fuel never exceeds 1800 fahrenheit.

The melting point of steel is 2700 fahrenheit.

    Look it up yourself.

and, which jet fuel would YOU be talking about?

    kerosene? liquid methane?

there are a lot of jet fuels.
I know what I am talking about. I have more than a common amount of knowledge in this area. hows about you go get your information on compressed fluid dynamics in turbine design, and the effects of trans-sonic airflow within an engine on long-term wear.

    Really, I can wait.

you are pulling books off the wrong shelf. that someone made up the information for.
depends on the carrier and engine, also "basically" cuts out a lot of information

a fusion bomb is basically some uranium some hydrogen and some C4, but that doesn't mean you're going to get the right mix in your garage in the next century, or anything like it.

    Edit:

Also, the melting point of steel, I would like a metallurgical analysis to back up your claims of melting point because

"The lowest temperature at which a plain carbon steel can begin to melt, its solidus, is 1130 °C. Steel never turns into a liquid below this temperature. Pure Iron ('Steel' with 0% Carbon) starts to melt at 1492 °C (2720 °F), and is completely liquid upon reaching 1539 °C (2802 °F). Steel with 2.1% Carbon by weight begins melting at 1130 °C (2066 °F), and is completely molten upon reaching 1315 °C (2400 °F)."

Different kinds of steel melt at different temperatures rat (sorry, had to go get this for you)

2700 isn't even popular, most steel is ~2500, but, that is today

lots of new metallurgical technologies have come onto the stage.

and you are throwing out REALLY weak research. and saying I should be researching "common knowledge"

well, guess what, you didn't research well enough.

you beat me to it. i was going to say jet fuels vary greatly. not only does fuel type depend on the carrier and engine, it also depends on the flight conditions. such as altitude, weather etc.

the fuel that my air frame took was jp-8. i don't know the exact ratios of its mixture but i know it varied greatly from other air frames ive seen.

the numbers rat posted could be true for one variant or type but lower or higher than another.

would you be so kind as to provide me with the fueling records of those jets? as, only two kinds are listed there, and, there are MANY more some have even been delisted as they are obsolete.

JP-8 is kerosene based. All regular passenger jets use kerosene based jet fuel.

You guys are really grabbing at straws, I can tell.

No, they don't "vary greatly." They vary in different additives and that is about it.

    hahaha.

sure it has a kerosenes base, but it is also mixed with gasoline. ive worked on a flight line for years, i at least hope i retained some knowledge.

edit; i speak only for the kc135

Another name for jet fuel is aviation kerosene. It's regular kerosene, but cleaner and more refined.

I still haven't seen you provide one actual useful piece of specification.

what engines were on the planes? what were the fueled with on that morning? not, what do you think they were fueled with, what were they fueled with?

and when did you learn anything about thermodynamics? or structural engineering? or aircraft engines? or aircraft fuel that wasn't fed to you by wikipedia, or conspiracy nuts?

Back to the OP: yes, its wrong.

And I'd like to add that anyone who talks about "the masses" is also an arrogant prick.

The problem is, the "general public" is a ghost of your tiny little mind. So, are you as smart as you think you are for not realizing that (emotionally)?

In the end, the "general public" is made up of individuals, and how many of those (in a world of 8 billion) do you *really* know?

i don't particularly go out of my way to emphasize it - because i rarely go on about things i don't know about IRL. at most, i'll ask them more questions to try to find a common ground.

Hello, I am probably smarter than you.

That makes my life much harder though.

Almost as hard as my 15 incher.

Bad form. And it is a form of insecurity. My mum is very intelligent, and she use to dumb herself down when talking to my Dad's friends. I do the same thing, if I think someone doesn't know much about a particular subject, I will put myself at their same level, act like I know less than what I do.

I do that in a lot of areas actually, I remember when I was sprinting, I use to slow down if I thought I was winning by too much.

It's not wrong, even though REALLY smart people don't need to emphasize it.

Oh and it seems like everyone on HF is super smart and above average
Not me though, I'm really average :cheers2:

Oh I would like to be oh so fabulous and excellent, but I am what I am, and that's average.
I especially love those who were told as kids that they're above average, but never actually achieved anything. You know, at some point in your life sitting and talking about your intelligence is not enough. Results count, not words.
