I am a christian and I believe that someones religion should not really be what makes them cool or uncool, it should be there personalty. I know this girl who is a christian and she is the most rude, selfish, meanest person I know! I have a friend who is a Buddhist and I absolutely love her! she is awesome! sure there are days where she annoys the heck out of me, and I thought it was so weird and crazy when she served mangoes to her buddha statue when mango prices were through the roof! but hey, thats who she is and she is happy! who am I to judge.
IOW. We should not respect others beliefs unless we agree that they are nice. IOW we should judge every belief and reject those we do not think nice. Regards DL
We should respect others belief because they (other people) are entitled to their own, not because some other person (you for example) decides if it is a nice belief or not. We can judge and disrespect all we like though. But ideally we should respect other peoples beliefs as we would like ours to be respected. Acceptance and tolerance end when people go wrong with their beliefs and are bothering other people with it.
Sure but Christians call sin what is not sin and are intolerant of equality of the sexes and would subjugate women to men forever. Yet you respect such a vile religion. Regards DL
I respect other peoples beliefs until they start bothering other people with it. So yes, as long as people do not make life more difficult for the other sex because their religion says so I respect their religion as well. I see lots of emancipated christians so I know it's not a matter of all christians. Let's judge them individually if you must, not in what you have perceived them what they must be according to their religion.
I personally think it is and let me explain. Firstly, We are living in the 21st century and we've sent men to the moon and spacecraft to the farthest reaches of space and so far...so far...there is NO evidence of ANYONE there sitting and watching us! I am with Eddie Izzard who once said in one of his routines that when men stepped on the moon that it would've been a pretty damn good time for GOD to step out and say "Way to go humans"!! Second, God ( as described in the Bible) comes off as an intolerant cosmic monster in many ways (in the Old Testament) and people today just don't want that bigoted, ugly, murderous shit anymore (It may have worked when men were drawing swords on each other, burning people at the stake, and eating dinner off a sharp stick but not now)! Scientific discovery went a long way towards making believing in God "uncool". That is one reason that Nietzsche said "God is dead", because with each find and each step towards knowledge men stepped away from this ancient myth that somehow managed to hang on into the modern age when so many other comparable myths (The Greek and Norse "Gods",etc) simply faded away. Whew....take a deep breath...LOL!
But the sanity does not return to the Earth as if it had it's necessary 'role' for the human being as a right ethical existence for 'Progress'. The importance of conscience was to know that life may be out of our control at times as much as we might like it not to be. I'd like to ask is your 'sanity' something God is refusing us, or is it after all our own denial for the scientific conclusions that truly the insane scientists made with their progressive often anti-ethical Science?
God is a myth unless you know him personally. Do you? And what anti-ethical science are you talking about? Regards DL
Umm...I'm pretty sure G-d is true. Pretty sure gonna be a lotta hollerin' for him pretty soon too. Even if he was "a myth", he'd still be truer than a lot of people are who talk about him on both sides.
Boring..., humans on Earth now have their ethos as it were to play for the certainty of His Existence. Individually, ethics is for denying the old subject of one's part without His presence in the world with you. Instead there again is the new subject of His denied presence in the world.
its not cool or uncool to believe or not believe. but it is cool to question his existence using the facts you have learned in your life.
Awful sterotypical generalisation. If I am to take your post literally you are saying that everyone who beliefs in God does not question things. That's just too ridicilous to take seriously. I hope you didn't mean it like that?
