If it hurts I want you to blink at me 4x and 5x if it doesn't hurt.

If you blink 3x or 6x we will try it again on a close family relative or your best friend. :p so don't fuck it up. :D

I would assume not since the blade cuts the back of the neck 1st. It severs the spinal cord instantly. I would assume there is no pain after that, but my expertise on human anatomy ended after my sophomore year in college.

Probably also depends on the weight and sharpness of the blade.

Getting blown up would be a better way to go, as long as you are right on top of the explosion. That would be a matter of milliseconds from being alive to being pink mist

Whenever there's any mention of the guillotine I'm always reminded of the scene in the movie Papillon (1973)
in which a prisoner is beheaded (and yes they actually show his head fall into a basket)

In the real Devil's Island they regularly used the guillotine and then took the body and threw is into the shark infested waters. The sharks were often hunted by the guards
as a source of nutrition and when cut open occasionally discovered human body parts completing the cycle.

To my knowledge none has ever lived to tell.
However it is known that if a person experience a violent and sudden death, the body can get up from the ground and scream. now that would be some scarry shit to see, but I soppuse thats where zombie stories come in to place.

Now I'm going to have the mental image of a detached head blinking into the ether in my head all day

  9. Pain comes in more forms than physical pain. The mental anguish of being a head lying on the ground is probably not exactly fun.

Doesn't address the question "does a severed head experience pain" but interesting regardless..

Ever since I’ve seen the film “The Other Boleyn Girl,” I’ve wondered this. The execution was beheading by ax. I think I’d pass out from the anticipation leading up to it.

Was thinking about this the other day when someone sent me a dodgy video (phone ) where this guy is surrounded by cops and cuts his own throat with a Gurkha knife ! he bled out in seconds and I wondered what he might have felt ?

Once a (french) physician made some research being allowed to perform tests on actual victims: his conclusion was that those executed by guillotine (or other form of clean beheading by a sharp blade) suffered "a lethal vivisection and a premature burial" and while I'm skeptical about the latter, which probably means that the victim goes in the coffin while still technically living, it makes sense that the brain still stays conscious a few seconds after the cut (not all blood is drained instantly from the brain, and the brain itself can hang on 20 seconds more or less before anoxia shuts consciousness down, if I recall right what I learned attending the course of Thanatology which makes entirely possible that a victim sees his own beheaded body before drifting into unconsciousness and brain death following shortly thereafter. If I had to choose my own execution I would be all for a nice and decent firing squad. Only the impact of the lead can knock you out, and a high powered rifle bullet in the head (or buckshot if you're more of a scattergun fella) is the definitive painless death - you stop existing the moment your brains are squashed into a mousse and splatted on the wall.

Does this mean you will feel pain that long?

There's only one way to conclusively find out all the answers here, and to test all the theories :(

I'm gonna give it a miss, for now, though :)

Correction: He does say "it's going to hurt" referring to your severed head hitting the floor, so I guess we can infer there is pain. Nociceptors are sensory neurons which signal painful stimuli and briefly looking it, while the brain tissue itself does not contain nociceptors, apparently some surrounding areas do.
