Spacer-dude, I totally get a lot of your concerns about Ireland and agree with plenty of what you've been saying. I guess the Irish have both a lot to work on and a lot to learn. I'm intensely fond of the place though, there's so much good shining through the country in my experience of it that the light of the good blotts out the badness, which is, however, and as you say, there in some shape or form. I love the people, the music, the cultural heritage, our literary and creative traditions, our folklore, our country's natural beauty. The pleasantest part of my day is when I wake up and know I'm in Ireland! I found the following a bit dramatically pessimistic-- As well as being extremely pessimistic, perhaps this is also a bit over-generalized too? Neither the Irish OR "the Brits" are "xenophobic, uncultured, monolinguistic pissheads", though, of course, certain minorities of nutters within the Irish and British traditions conform to some or all of the above. As do a minority of Americans. Or French. Or Italians. Etc., etc. I'm optimistic about Ireland at present, and though we may not necessarily improve things, I can clearly see that there is at the least the OPPORTUNITY to do a lot of good and thus improve things where there wasn't necessarily the same kind of opportunity in the past. For instance: the Troubles have declined; negative aspects of Catholic Church influence have, as you say, subsided dramatically; economic changes have reduced Dublin's slums and crime-rates in the city are down significantly from what they were before the Celtic Tiger thingumy kicked in; etc., etc. Yes, loadsa probs, but loadsa good changes and opportunities on the horrizon too. It's a good time for us all to do positive things for the place. In the inspiring words of Michael Jackson, "Shamone y'all Irish mo' fo's..."
Alright lads. Im Irish as well. My names Síle and I live in Mayo haha. If ye think where ye are living is bad, try it here. Ah no it's alright like, beautiful in the summer because I live in the countryside. It's boring though and Castlebar is a shit town. But I'm definitely going to leave for a while anyway. It's too expensive! Slán agus beannacht.
Mayo is a nice county although I can imagine what Castlebar is like for goin out in. Most provincal towns are shite like that.
George Bush sings 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_vv12NSSZ4&search=bush%20u2 Class!
I'm currently living in Dublin, got here from Finland about 6 months ago... I've enjoyed myself and living here, but I think it's time to start thinking about new and better things... lol, just got invited to job interview in Amsterdam.... -DF-
I live in Dublin now, have been here for almost one week and I dunno for how long I'm gonna stay. Hopefully I get a job. Anyone else living in Dublin who has any tips on where to work? Hopefully I'll meet some nice friends here too =)
All the big supermarkets are easy to get work in but the money isn't great, after that I don't know, but best of luck! Where are you from originally?
Cool, I'm from a small town aswell about an hour from Dublin. Hope you get setup in Dublin! It's nice if a bit expensive, although I believe Sweden is just as exsensive if not more for some things like beer and cigarettes. You should try recruitment agenices around the city aswell for office work and other such things.
im kastro.. from dublin living in waterford atm... prob moving again soon. im a tattooist.. ehhhhhh yea thats about it
Top of the Morining too yah! Im planning a ahort trip to Ireland in a couple of weeks, to include Dublin and somewhere on the West Coast any ideas? wild Irish music please!! Love Catherine x www.lovedupkitchen.co.uk
Well on the west coast you could go to the town of Westport in Mayo which is a place where tourists seem to go. There's lots of pubs there that play trad music. Or you could go to Galway city. If you really wanted to go to a middle of nowhere place you could go to one of the Aran islands
check out www.musiclee.ie it's mostly about a pub in Smithfield, Dublin 7, called the cobblestone. Most of the artists who play there are well versed in traditional Irish music. Drop me a message if you're around Dublin and I can let you know when and where to find some of the best trad about.
bump bump bump.... rwaaar.. I survived my trip...just barely.. ended up in dublin suburbia most of the time tho...fell in love with too many pubs and hurt my head the night before st. paddys... left most of my stomach in the bathroom in Pravda (was a blackened mess)..ha oops...im a classy yank me..the bartender at the Bachelor Inn is the man...just sayin..his combover is the stuff of legends! The parade sucked. I wanted to murder lil children who were blowing whistles and screaming! Agh my head hurts just remembering it! Glendeloch was amazing and I fell in love with Wexford... I loved every second of it and cried like a baby when I had to board my plane home.. Tryin to make a move for next summer... Hopefully *fingers crossed* Tryin to get a job here that lets me transfer over.. tho the idea of living or commuting to Dub scares me.. Anyways...thats the story..
