Hey guys, the thread is intermittent fasting not intermittent farting You're off by one letter. Having said that, someone will now start up a look-alike thread. Alternative health websites might even start promoting a new trend diet related to it.
An article that relates IF with workouts and how to optimize the effects. http://www.livestrong.com/article/470587-intermittent-fasting-bodybuilding/
LeanGains is an approach similar to IF http://www.leangains.com/2010/04/leangains-guide.html There is plenty of room for research in the area of nutrient and calorie partitioning. How does one want to use calories and nutrients? Burn them for a marathon race? Use them to build muscle or reduce body fat? Mitigate the debilitating effects of a health disorder (such as diabetes)? How a person manages his or her diet and activity depends much on what the goals are.
I am doing interval training on the days I fast. That, on top of the hour of cardio/walking I do everyday.
Sounds good. I think it's an interesting area of study to try to optimize the performance of two things together, such as IF and fitness training.
I've done various fasts for various reasons before. Currently I've totally eliminated sugar (any sugar, including sugar in fruit) and any white bread, white rice, etc.- What I eat pretty much consists of fish, chicken, sweet potatoes, veggies (eat a lot of spinach and other greens with avocado every day, with olive oil and bragg raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar on it..and sunflower seeds), other nuts and seeds, seaweed (lol), brown rice and beans and sometimes eggs...and... that is pretty much all I'm currently eating. I have my reasons for doing this and it isn't really a fast or for diet (losing weight) reasons. However, the weight is just poring off of me. Lost 5 pounds in two days... in past two days. Which I am not complaining about. Anyways been eating like this for two weeks now and at first it was CRAZY the sugar cravings I would have (I love my ice cream)... truly felt like damn drug cravings which just goes to prove to me that sugar is addictive (a drug), but after a few days that has largely passed and I feel satisfied with a sweet potato and salad. Anyways, this was kinda another topic in a way but there ya go.
Someone mentioned that things aren't as simple as counting calories. This article gives some insight as to why that is so and how controlling other factors such as BMR and thermic can be used to your advantage when trying to gain or lose weight. http://www.emedexpert.com/tips/metabolism-tips.shtml Three factors that have an impact on your energy expenditure are: Basal metabolic rate - the number of calories the body needs to maintain body functions while at rest. Thermic effect of food - the number of calories required to digest, absorb, transport, and store food. Physical activity - the number of calories expended during daily activity, lifestyle and exercise.
