a lot of people seem to be angry from florida id be sick of worrying about my house being blown away too. or cat
Each of our (male) cats is very different in their preferences since we had to put them out. We originally had them all (3) inside. Coby would go in and out but the others preferred in. After awhile though, (since we got Coby) they all started peeing in the house. Before that they went faithfully in their litter box, but since Coby is un-neutered they turned territorial. (They get along well otherwise.) So we had to put them outdoors permanently. Coby and Lexie seem to enjoy it, and Fessor is "okay" with it. They all try to run in though, when we have the door open (especially Fessor). We do let them come in sometimes, but we have to watch them closely. Dad built them some houses out of cardboard boxes, insulated with fiberglass and stuffed with blankets so they don't get too cold. That's their main issue right now. I know when it gets warmer they'll be less anxious to come in. Fessor and Lexie (especially Fessor) really loved living indoors, so they're having to adjust. We think it's really good for them though. Fessor has been overweight for most of his life and is finally starting to slim down. It's easy to litter train kittens. Once you have the litter box ready, immediately place them in there to let them sniff around. Keep doing that, and when you see them sniffing/scratching around getting ready to go (or if they already have), gently scold them and move them straight to the box. They learn fast. If your cat is declawed and docile, it is possible to bathe them. They generally don't need it, though. If they have claws, it is SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult and you might need some assistance.
My cat is indoor. You don't let a cat out free in the city, that is just stupid on so many levels. Are they supposed to panhandle on the sidewalk? My cat loves indoors, she can go out on the deck in summer, but hates snow. My mom is in the country, but with dogs and fishers running around, she keeps her cats indoors. One of them likes to go outside on a harness, but just tied up, not for walks... Cats are territorial, as long as they have a place to call their own they are fine. They are not wild animals and they are not dogs.
*nods* We have to keep our two male cats separated from our kitten and mama cat, so we let them have free roam of the back room of the house. I was afraid they'd hate it, but they love it. It's our junk room, so they have mounds of stuff to play on and they get plenty of loving, their own litterbox, plenty of food and water because they don't have to share with the girls, and they love it. They are very territorial and when we let them out into the rest of the house, they usually check everybody out, get their pettings, and go right back "home". It's the craziest thing, lol. I'm introducing them to the outdoors this spring. We live in a great area for cats, we had 30-something at one time outside before the neighbors trapped them.
