I hear you, you say you were specifically targeting a 'type' of atheist, as there is no such 'type' here, all being pretty laid back about the whole topic and non-antagonistic, perhaps this can change your judgements of atheists in general?

I suppose the question is: Whose right dominates?

The right to be left alone without hearing about religious viewpoints that you disagree with.

    or

The right to talk about/mention/spread your viewpoints to anyone you wish.

Evangelists have every right to proselytize, I fully support their right to free speech, just as I support the rights of nazi's to make their message heard. I also support the 'rights' of people to confront and even ridicule,(within the constraints of the law) viewpoints they find repugnant and harmful.

My point is atheists don't go door to door spreading their message, they don't have missionary's...maybe they should.

Tedium or not, unchanged theitistic minds create corrupt futures.

A real change for a positive societal evolution can only happen when people stop being lazy and actually perform to create the future they want.

The only reason religion has such a corrupt hand in government is due to the fact that theists are actually doing something to ensure their narrow-minded ideal of a perfect society is met. The only way to counteract that is to stop stating such ignorant comments such as "it's too tedious to react".

Catholics are Christians, and were so long before any other Christian group around today. So who are these "Christians" you're talking about? And Catholics don't say you'll be damned if you're a homosexual. They say it's a sin to be a practicing homosexual, but any sin can be absolved through confession and repentance.

There is a huge difference between being upset about something as obviously wrong as murder and then attempting to push your twisted theistic agenda on society by claiming that everything you personally hate is a sin.

It is not just "against the church" as you are claiming. What you have stated above is not beyond the church or spiritual god believers in perpetrating their acts of "evil" because they think they are beyond man's law due to god's delusional voice.

Guess what. Catholics are Christians, the largest Christian denomination in the country, the largest in the world!

I grew up Catholic and then began studying with non-denominational Christian groups, so I know what they say and believe :). In that post, I'm talking about what, in my experience, each group emphasizes. I was agreeing with a previous poster.

I'm aware that Catholics are technically Christians, and I'm sure you know about the Protestant revolution. Protestants wanted to get back to a more "pure" form of Christianity, untainted by the money hungry doings of the Vatican (or at least this is how they view themselves). Most Protestants that I talk to refer to Catholics as "fake Christians." It's funny how many people from different states and countries call Catholics fake Christians! I must say that, other than shared the belief in God and Jesus, the two Christian sects are very different!

So, I'll say it again, in a different way.

In my experience, Catholics emphasize sins and avoidance of sins, Protestants emphasize salvation only through belief in God/Jesus.

I'm sorry if this is not in line with what you have experienced. If it isn't, I'm sure we'd all be glad to hear your story.

I'd say Airy Fox is an example of an evangelistic atheist. Read his numerous posts stating that no one has a legitimate reason to believe in God, that Christians are evil and dangerous, and that religion should be abolished. He even started a thread recently that simply posted an ad for a talk given last year in London with the title "Is Christianity the Genesis of Modern Psychological Warfare'. No argument, no evidence, just the ad for a talk that was already given. Apparently, the intent was just to print something negative about Christians.

I think they're both Christians, if they believe that Jesus is their savior.

You would be correct, and I do not deny it. The correct term, however, in place of "evangelistic" would be militant.

The people I've had come up to me or knock on my door are Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses. Many Protestants don't think these people are even Christian. I'd disagree, but I do agree they're annoying. They don't come by often anymore. Maybe it's because I argue with them a lot about the details of their sales pitch.

The problem is,of course, that the annoying ones, a definite minority, are conspicuous, because they're so annoying. The non-annoying majority--most mainline Protestants and, yes, Catholics, are laid back and don't get noticed. As for the OP, her posts speak for themselves--evagelizing.

Yes but there is this other Christian group where, Christians are called Christians and Catholics are called Catholics. Let's not forget some day that they are two totally different types of Christians and they see different views or they'd go to the same churches.
I don't think we call them Catholic Christians anymore. To my knowledge when we say Christians we mean non Catholics.

That may be true but I'm talking about something a bit different.

I'm a participant on at least 12 various forums and websites, over the course of many years. In my experience, atheists are some of the most active participants. Why are they so drawn to religion(s) and God(s)?

I've been through a period of "atheism" in my life. Know what I did? I didn't think about or talk about anything. Religion and God were non-issues. They were not in my life, at that time. That, to me, is true atheism. And yes, I had cast God out of my life for a period of time! Sure did!

I suppose what I'm trying to get at is ..

If Faith has so many branches and denominations, I think atheism does too.

    To Ginelee,,,
There is no true atheism, there is no class they go to and no standards they must follow, thats the beauty of it, atheist may think as they like and speak as they like because there is no leader telling them what to do or believe, this is what you forget now that you have a leader.

Your clear misunderstanding of atheism is all too apparent.

Why there are so many denominations and "branches" of Christianity is that no one single sect can agree on how to interpret the bible. If it is the "word of god", should it not be perfectly clear what the bible is stating? If a "perfect" being divinely inspired non-perfect men to write it, is it still "perfect"? Christians can create all the excuses they want, but the truth is all to evident to everyone except them with their rose-colored glasses.

Atheism is merely atheism in its purity. Atheism is not a faith, it is not a religion, in its mere singular form it is the lack of belief in a supreme being.

I really doesn't, some are just more vocal about it. Some would be more vocal, if it weren't for the fact that they are so outnumbered in society and can't afford the stygma. Others never give it a thought one way or the other. Probably not fair to even call the latter Atheists, they just are simply not attracted to or have no time to devote thought on any particular theology, they are just busy living their lives.

Buddhists and Philosophical Taoists are essentially Atheists. Though they still have a concept of spirituality, they don't entertain any notions of deity, and certainly nothing about judgment, retribution or salvation.

We speak from vastly different experiences and backgrounds.

I can go to any of the other forums and websites I mentioned, right now, for religious / God discussion, and I guarantee you .. there are ABUNDANT atheists. Outnumbered? Not quite.

A few years ago, I sent a message to one woman in Christ (on YouTube) about protecting her subscribers. Her channel was a hate magnet .. loaded with "atheists" (the sort I'm talking about). The hostility, hatred and violence were a permanent fixture on her channel. She did eventually turn off comments (maybe moderation would have been too time consuming for her, I don't know). Of course, that's just how it is on YouTube .. whether it's religions and God or science or politics. But there are other places I participate and it's the same thing .. so-called atheists who CAN'T RESIST religions and God. To me, those are not true atheists. <--- the point of question #2 of post #1
