in high school and junior high, i always thought dating someone much, much older was weird. like the guy would be a pervert or something

but when you get out of high school and shit, age doesn't matter at all

As the parent of a 14 year old boy, you and I would have major issues. He might be willing and able but it could have some serious affects on the development of his personality.

This subject is really a double edged sword.. I don't ever know what to say.. because well.. if our bodies weren't meant to have sex.. then why would our bodies be able to produce at such young ages... other countries realize this and that is why the age for concentual sex is lower than in the US.. in a way government has come to make us realize that if you are over the age of 18.. then having any relations under that age is wrong.. why? obviously there are kids at young ages that can have very intellectual conversations with older people.. also look at tribes in other countries.. when the girl hits puberty.. she is concidered a responsible woman.. able to now start a family.. same with boys.. they are now concidered men and are not limited to what they can and can't do anymore.. our society decided to put this label on ages now.. to where.. a 47y/o man can be with a 37y/o woman and its fine and dandy.. but a 27y/o man with a 17y/o woman is wrong :-/

I dont think theres anything wrong. When I was 18 I have a realtionship with a 13 yr old. We keep it going for over 2 yrs.

Girls reach sexual maturity when they are 12 years old and boys usually reach it at 13. Did you read that sentence carefully..........SEXUAL MATURITY. That means a boy is a man and a girl is a woman.

There is absolutley nothing wrong with this relationship as long as the OP is careful not to keep out of the gov.'s rader, because in countries like the US laws concerning this are the strictest. Well......what do you expect with such a puritanical and racist nation like the US. The age of consent in Japan is more natural......at 13. Canada is 14 I think.

Personally I don't find younger teens attractive but there is nothing wrong with such a relationship as long as there is consent. And don't give me that bullshit that a 13 or 14 year old can't consent.......if you say that then you are basically saying that Mother Nature is a fucking idiot.

Honestly such issues of age have only been an issue in the 20th century (and a lot more so in America than other countries). Are some of you that blind not to see this?

 

You'll be a little more concerned when you're a parent. My 14 year old might well be happy to be in such a situation but he is not mentally mature enough to deal with it. After 30 years of work as a therapist I have seen enough people with fucked up sexual attitudes to know that I damn sure don't want my son involved with someone older who is basically using him for a fuck toy.

I don't think that this argument involves politics. It is an apolitical notion to be against older people having sex with preteens. Most 13-14 year old kids aren't very mature and probably not ready to have sex despite being sexually mature and having sexual desires. Moreover, preteens tend to be precocious and naive, which makes me think that most older men see them as easy targets and not as people to respect. Indeed, kids that age may want to have sex, and I suspect that there is less potential that they'll be abused if they have sex with each other and not adults.

You take Canada's and Japan's ages of consent out of context. According to Avert.org, an international AIDS charity, although Canada's age of consent is 12, "[C]onsensual activity with those over 12 may not be an offence if the accused is under 16 and less than two years older than the complainant. The exception is anal intercourse, to which unmarried persons under 18 cannot legally consent according to national law, although provincial laws may vary." Additionally, "The age of sexual consent in Japan is 13 years of age, although prefecture law usually overrides federal law raising the age up to 18" (http://www.avert.org/aofconsent.htm lists most countries' ages of consent). So in most of Japan, the age of consent is 18, and in Canada, the laws are arranged so that it is illegal for adults to have sex with 12-16 year olds but not illegal for kids of that age to have sex with each other.

Avert.org also states, "In some U.S. states a lower age applies when the age gap between partners is small, or when the older partner is below a certain age (usually 18 or 21)." Again, it seems as though the laws are designed more to punish adults for having sex with kids and not to prevent kids from having sex.

Many of the places in the world that disregard the age of consent tend to be complicit with the mistreatment of women. Thirteen year olds having sex with older men is more akin to girls being sold and having their genitals mutilated than it is to intrepid middle schoolers breaking free from governmental oppression by having sex.

I don't think that prohibitions on adults having sex with kids is ageist. It is an attempt to prevent the social problems that occur when teenagers get pregnant and are not mature or financially stable enough to rear children; moreover, it is an attempt to prevent adults from exploiting teens for sex.

And maybe it is natural for people to want to have sex with teens, but what does that prove? Aren't there other instincts that would make life unpleasant if everybody just followed them aimlessly? What if I just pissed and shat everywhere I wanted to because it is natural for my body to expel wastes?

Finally, you are the one who is adhering to a conservative argument, if it is possible to politicize this (even though I don't think that it is), since one of your justifications is that people having sex with children was not an issue in the past, so then it should be acceptable today. Well, according to the dictionary, a conservative is somebody who is "disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change." i.e. you.

 

Meh, I'd just stick to 18+ people. Sex is probably better, no legal worries. As said before though, when I was 14 I'd like nothing better...
