Y'know soulrebel makes a valid point here.

The Doors are good, yes. But they're really not that amazing.
I personally get bored of them easily.

Really, my point here is: Listen to early pink floyd/anything with syd barrett in.

    thankyou and goodnight

Syd Barrett makes Morrison and Krieger look like disembowled little preschoolers.

:D it's so true. barrett's lyrics were great, then again he wasnt an amazing singer.
just listen to flaming on piper at the gates of dawn, great song but awful singing at the 'yipee you cant see me, but i can you'.

although it does add some form of 'texture' to the song....:D

I'm glad he sang like he did... he's one of my favorite vocalists :D

I can only play a couple of his songs tho :(

    Check out http://www.sydbarrett.net/welcome.htm !
It's got pretty much every tab and chord for everyone Syd song... except Two of a Kind :( I love that song.

Along with Noel Gallagher, they're definitely my two biggest influences for my writing. :H

ahahaha... this is now two threads we've converted to Syd threads :d

the amount of times i've been on that website...i can play all of piper at the gates of dawn pretty much :D

i agree his singing is class, it suits the music, it just isnt that amazing....

    for all you morrison fans:

"Alone in the clouds all blue
    Lying on an eiderdown.
    Yippee! You can't see me
    But I can you.

    Lazing in the foggy dew
    Sitting on a unicorn.
No fair, you can't hear me
    But I can you.

    Watching buttercups cup the light
    Sleeping on a dandelion.
Too much, I won't touch you
    But then I might.

    Screaming through the starlit sky
    Traveling by telephone.
    Hey ho, here we go
    Ever so high.

Alone in the clouds all blue
    Lying on an eiderdown.
    Yippee! You can't see me
    But I can you."

    THAT is poetry :D

    This is my favorite...

This is a story 'bout a girl that I knew
    she didn't like my songs
and that made me feel blue
she said: "a big band is far better than you"...

She don't rock 'n' roll, she don't like it
she don't do the stroll, well she don't do it right
well, ev'rythings wrong and my patience was gone
    when I woke one morning
    and remembered this song
    O-oh-oh, kinda catchy, I hoped
that she would talk to me now
and even allow me to hold her hand
    and forget that old band.

I strolled around to her pad
her light was off and that's bad
her sister said that my girl was gone
"But come inside, boy, and play, play, play me a song!"
I said "Yeah! Here I go"
She's kinda cute; don't you know,
That after a while of seeing her smile
I knew we could make it, make it in style!?

So now I've got all I need
She and I are in love, we've agreed
she likes this song and my others too
so now you see my world is...
    because of this tune!
    What a boon this tune!
    I tell you soon
We'll be lying in bed, happily wed,
and I won't think of that girl
    or what she said...

miles ahead of anything the doors ever wrote :D

eh, I just like that boot of the early Doors, 'go insane' sounds like early punk.
