I'm Not A Hippy Because...???

I could care less honestly.

I'm around hippies all of the time, they kind of suck.

 

it's the labels that keep people divided neatly in their cubes not intermingling and getting any sort of message across. if you wanna be a hippie, great. if you don't, swell. people just think i'm the neighborhood weirdo chick with the tattoos and big holes in her ears. that's another label; damn. why so many labels? why does everything have to be so precise as to fall under a label?

the only person i would consider a fake hippie, and i HAVE met a few of them, would be a right-wing loonie with long hair who stayed judgement empaired as much of the time as he could find the means of doing so.

it's not about what's on top of your head but what's inside of it. it was for being what the then mainstream chose to percieve/label, as being to the "left" of itself, that the then mainstream media coined the term "hippie" to ridicule.

and that's really really really all it ever really was. so in a sense, if you're anything other then a fanaticaly corporacrtic capitolist, and you feel like calling yourself a hippie, go right ahead.

just understand though the label you're taking on yourself and why it was coined. yes what many of us, and i can't claim to have been anyone who did, devout coward that i am, WAS downright heroic. but you've got to understand though, that heroes, like prophets, are never honored in thier own time, but only in retrospect, if ever even then.

i hear so many young people who hadn't been born then, saying they wish they had been a hippie in the 60s. well if you're what i've just described as a REAL hippie now, it is exactly the same. it was only after we'd been struggling for a decade that the apex of woodstock was celibrated. and that wasn't received all that warmly by much of the rest of society outside of our own interpersonal networks and mutual recognition signs either.

the challanges of being honest then, which is what we were all about, and the challanges of being honest now, are much more similar then different. maybe not identical, nothing ever is, but real damd waay too similar.

and really waay too damd similar to try and claim and pretend the only real hippies were back then either!
