I know exactly what you mean. I feel so retarded for even acting like that. I was around 14 or so and had just started high school and started listening to whiny stuff like Nirvana and decided I hated the world suddenly. Ever seen that episode of South Park with the "goth kids"? Yeah, that's pretty much how I was and my best friends all wore black and stuff, but only a couple of them were all over-dramatic too. I wrote really dark (though pretty good) poetry. I only miss the inspiration for my arts back then, lol. But around 16, I had my heart crushed for the very first time. It was the first time I had ever felt emotional pain like that and it made me realize that before I had nothing at all to whine about. As sad as I was, I realized had been acting like a total douche and stopped. Coincidentally, that was also around the time I first started listening to the Beatles...hehe.

But the sad thing is, when you're like Emo Freak is, you're so self-absorbed and so caught up in your own problems, you don't listen to anyone else. You post senseless "cries for help" on message boards, leave morbid poetry laying around for anyone to find, cut yourself...but it takes a lot to snap you out of it. My cousin and I were talking one day and he told me, "Yeah, I went through a gothy stage like that, but one day I woke up and just realized that there was no reason to be angry with the entire world." It took me awhile to understand that, but I did when reality hit me. In my case, I've got a lot of mental problems, but depression is not one of them. Emo Freak could have a terrible home life and could really have a good reason for all hope to be lost, but chances are good she's a whiny attention seeking brat who needs a good dose of reality.

Our area's psychiatric hospital is scary from stories I've heard. It shares a building with the medical center's hospice and they lock the patients on the second floor. In their contract they sign when they go into the hospital's care, it states that the patient is allowed to go outside whenever they feel they need to, under the supervision of a nurse or doctor. They still never let anyone outside. That alone would drive me even battier. Icky.
