what i want, isn't to "earn money without working", but to live in an advanced high tech world, in which there there has never been any such thing as money and never will be. an advanced high tech world that also respects and protects the diversity of all fauna and flora and makes a priority of doing so. poverty is a concept that only exists because of the concept of wealth. i do wish the people around me didn't think the universe began and ended inside their own heads. i wish nothing having to be owned to be enjoyed, and if someone else isn't already doing so, to be used as well. that means people not having to be told to not mess with anything next to where someone else sleeps too. but resources and land, and especially living creatures, not having to be owned, and all having each their own right to exist. that people realized they weren't living in a binary zero sum universe, where not supporting one thing, somehow meta-magically supports every worst other thing imaginable, but instead, that infinity minus one, is just infinity minus one. like not supporting universal capitalism is NOT support for everything or anything else, again infinity minus one is infinity minus one. (money hasn't replaced slavery, but simply disguised it and made it more palatable). and what about working? what it is and what it isn't. is it only working when you are doing something someone else wants and they pay you money for doing it? (is it really "doing nothing" if instead you make pictures of that kind of world you'd rather live in, and give them away free to anyone and everyone for no more then a right click with their mouse?) and is it freedom if you have to get permission, often many permissions, along with again indenturing yourself to own, just to be allowed to exert your own efforts to make a physical structure, or many forms of artifacts or substances? and does letting little green pieces of paper get away with murder, contribute anything to increasing any actual living person's freedom to create and build? and if money replaces the need to drag a cow around, what does being able to download a cow off the internet, do to the need for dragging money around? (yes i know we haven't quite gotten there yet, but we've gotten to where we can imagine the possibility in entirely concrete and mostly engineerable terms.) yes a world that does not at all NEED money, is way up there on my short list of what is both desirable, and very very possible. along with transportation and every other kind of infrastructure and technology, propelled entirely by clean sources of energy. of collecting, storing and distributing energy by environmentally neutral and sustainable means. to live in a world that has those things, and at the same time a population smaller then it was at the time i was born. smaller even then it was a hundred or more years before i was born. a population so small that steam and fossil fuel would not be a disaster, but still wise enough and logical enough to not turn to and become dependent on them. a world that couldn't be led by people who could talk them into making war on each other. and again that would be a world that favored imagination over aggressiveness. and this isn't a reaction against another post, though in part, and only in part, inspired by it.
