    I would probably do it.

I lifeguarded for 5 years and felt totally comfortable in my swimsuit all day. Being naked isn't much less.

According to this huge map, toplessness in public is legal in all of the states colored green: Although authorities might try to nail you for some other "crime" in order to get you to cover up.

Unfortunately, North Carolina's conservative Republican legislature closed the loophole in our state law last year. :(

I thought North Carolina says it's OK to be nude among your same sex, (because we all know for certain that NOTHING could ever happen between members of the same sex.)

Is that what they changed or some other law?

Female nipples are now legally classified the same as genitals.

If nudity was legal, we probably wouldn't be so uptight about it. I've traveled in Europe, and going topless at the beach was no big deal. I had to do it just because I could. :blush5:

If nudity was legal, I'd probably be naked at home and whenever I was running errands in the summer. I doubt I'd go naked at work, I think there would still be an image to maintain. During the winter, well, I have no desire to freeze! :freezing: I guess it's hard to envision because most of us were raised that nudity isn't acceptable, at least not in public, so this is really a hypothetical discussion. As it is, I'm sometimes nude inside the house, and often when I lie out on the deck (we live on property away from neighbors).

I'd go nude everywhere but at uni I'll have to maintain a good impression. I'd feel weird at first.

this made me think a bit about what i would do nude if i could legally. i mean if its hot out i would certainly mow the grass nude. but now that im thinking it. maybe i wouldnt, shaking up all the bugs might not feel so good on parts that are normally covered. i dont know maybe it would be great mowing the grass nude, im just thinking a little more about the stuff i never considered before.

The new law is a slap in the face to protesters in downtown Asheville who were demanding expanded topless rights in the summer of 2012. At least two of them were HF members at the time. Since female nipples were not legally defined as genitals, the Asheville activists wanted more clearly defined state guidelines and laws that would get local police off their backs. Yeah, they got the issue more clearly defined, for sure. State GOP leaders in Raleigh absolutely despise all the young hippie liberals in Asheville, and wanted to send a strong message to remind everybody who's the boss, and whose values are the ones that matter.

In the past, police here could only write topless girls up for things like disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, or creating a public disturbance; minor crimes that rarely prevented anyone from getting a job later, even in a public school. And usually, the charges were dropped anyway. My understanding is that the new law says nothing about intent, so an accidental wardrobe malfunction nip slip in a low cut party dress could get you in as much trouble as a creepy old guy who likes to pull out his dick at public playgrounds. The only two levels of legal offense are determined by the age of the witnesses (+/- 18).

There are isolated beaches all along the Outer Banks where topless play on the sand and in the water has gone on for decades, even though I don't think anybody ever thought it was 100% legal. Sometimes, park rangers would just walk up to somebody and say, "You need to put on a top." Now, with the new legal definition and cell phone cameras everywhere all the time, a girl need to think twice about risking life as a registered sex offender over a couple hours of fun in the sun. At the very least, somebody in each group needs to be posted as a lookout, so nobody can sneak up behind them. Some people already do that on those beaches, because they like to get totally naked.

Also, a point that overlaps with another thread: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=482411&f=51. I wonder if new restrictions in this state will be on the way soon for public breastfeeding. I'm not sure how much it would matter anyway, since the practice is so socially unacceptable here. I can't remember the last time I saw anybody do it, but I have heard stories about business owners saying to customers, "You can't do that here." Even if you know you have a legal right, what can you do? You can't prove it on the spot.

I hate to get in the way of anyone's outrage, but that change in the law in North Carolina never happened.
