Then If an atheist flat out calls all this stuff bullshit or tries to point that out, they are considered "insensitive", even "hostile". The faithful want to have their cake and eat it too. I think it's good that videos like the op take the route of granting the literal interpretation of this stuff, so those who aren't so steeped in such interpretations can understand the insanity of the ideas we're dealing with.
So it's okay to distort and oversimplify to mislead those who will probably conclude that all religion or at least Judeo-Christian religion is really like that? Dishonesty works, go for it!?
I know at least one poster here who maintains truths very much representative of the insinuated claims in the op, you ever consider that it is perhaps you are the one who is doing the distorting, suggesting it's to be taken as metaphor and what not?
We can only try and rationalize those definitions of God that theists put forth. Talk about dishonesty? hiding behind vague definitions like "God is love" bullshit. The reality of our world is not indicative of "God is love". Our world is a survival competition of life eating other forms of life. Survival of the fittest dictated by natural law where God's influence is nowhere to be found but within the delusions of man's head. Ignorant delusions of denial and sometimes outright homicidal contempt for other's who's God delusions differ from their own. A once useful coping mechanisms in primitive times, now a parasitic mental sickness, an outlet for man's evil blood-lust. Pray to the Yahweh devil in your heart. God is hate and blood-lust as much as he is love and kindness. God hates fags and loves children, each is equally testable. Actually I take that back, I've never heard of God blessing anyone for bashing their enemies homosexuals against rocks, just babies. It's a good thing that the Yahweh devil doesn't really exist. If there is ANY God at all, it's a crying shame that he's chosen to be RIDICULOUSLY SUPERFLUOUS.
First you say that the world is a nasty, dog-eat-dog place, and that God is delusion. But then you go on to say that "God hates fags" and that loving children is detestable.(What the hey?) In other words, you seem to be angry at a fictional character, and this anger, bordering on hatred, at a figure you don't believe in comes through in most of your posts. Very strange. I think most Christians would agree that the world is an evil place, and that humans are part of the problem, but I think that Jesus gave us the means of making it Heaven on earth. The only catch is we must believe and follow His message of peace and universal non-judgmental love for all, especially the poor and society's rejects. What makes it confusing is that many so-called Christians do the very opposite. They are often more judgmental, mean-spirited, and bellicose than most people-- actually Latter Day Pharisees of the worst sort whom Jesus made a career of opposing. (I know that many Pharisees were good and Jesus Himself might have been one, but the ones He argued with in the Bible were prototypical of many Christians today.) But it doesn't have to be that way. If you open your heart to Jesus, real or mythical, accept Love as your God and carry it forward, you have the power to transform at least a small part of the world into a much better place. In my opinion, you can produce similar results by following other spiritual traditions, including atheistic naturalism and humanism. Or just follow your conscience. It's the Love part that counts. As they say in the programs, "Try it; it works."
Sure I've considered that. The alternatives are to take it literally, which is untenable, or to reject it, which throws the baby out with the bathwater. Jesus told us that we can tell the true prophets from the false ones by their fruits. It's a judgment call, but it seems to me the literalists are bearers of bitter fruits.
Why would I be angry at a fictional character, come on. Did a fictional character make these signs? What I hate is sickness, this socially transmitted infectious mental illness that these people are afflicted with. The sickness they are spreading to their kids. All kinds of fucking sickness. Evil Yahweh sicknesses. And Jesus is not love, Jesus is just another manifestation of this of this Yahweh blood-lust. Not Yahweh the fictional monster, Yahweh the sickness in our heads that we've inherited from these religious savages. We don't love because religion, we love despite religion.
I'd be willing to wager if you did a study on their effectiveness in treating disorders, Xanax would do better than Jesus.
Obviously, neither a fictional character nor God made the signs. They were the work of disturbed individuals. The one on the left is in error theologically, since God loves everyone. Even the late pompous Evangelical moralist Jerry Falwell acknowledged that Christians, while hating sin, must love all sinners. The idea that God hates homosexuality rests on misinterpretations of various Bible passages, especially the Leviticus 18:22 ;20:13 and passage characterizing it as an "abomination" and the passages in 1 Corinthians 6:9 and Romans 1:24-27. I'd argue that none of them, considered in historical context, is a blanket condemnation of homosexuality, and that in any case they don't authorize hateful attacks. As Paul says in Romans 2 we have no excuse to pass judgment on others. Neither God nor fictional characters are responsible for what nut cases and heretics put on their signs.
I agree with you. So did Jesus, who said: . “If you harm one of these little ones, better for you that a millstone be draped around your neck and you be dropped into the depths of the sea” (Luke 17:2).
Sick, maybe, but what does Yahweh have to do with it? These folks appear to be Shiite Muslims celebrating Ashura, commemorating the death of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussein, by cutting their heads with knives and scimitars. It's a stretch to blame the Christian and Jewish God for the bizarre rituals of one Muslim sect, although technically Allah is the same deity.
We love because we have inclinations toward empathy and reciprocal empathy, which Jesus and other enlightened prophets amplified by their teachings.
Just my two cents..I don't think that these prophets have amplified love. Maybe, MAYBE they intended to. But in effect, they created sects of humanity. And that doesn't breed love. It makes distinctions between people that much more glaring. It's not like writing a love song, which is for everyone, and really amplifies love.
Sadly, you may be right. Instead of "amplified", "clarified" might be the better word. Jesus' message was threatening to the Establishment of His day, and after His death, His followers soon split into different factions, which seem to have been more intensely divided than Acts makes out. I suspect that the Jesus I'm devoted to is the idealized Jesus of the Gospels, especially Luke, instead of the historical Jesus who will remain something of a mystery. As Albert Schweitzer used to say, the historical Jesus was "too historical", meaning that He saw the world through the lense of first century apocalyptic Judaism. In the evolutionary struggle among Christian memes, I'm supporting the version that calls for peace, love and understanding.
Not every atheist and not every kind of criticism it seems. It's all in the way it is done. Relaxxx is an excellent example. He's not even conversing with the actual christians he wants to debate so eagerly but puts out several of the exact same threads dissing and pissing on them. Probably ment as an inviting trigger but it seems it rarely works like that. When a lot of reactions to it are about how repetitive he is and how needless offensive he formulates it maybe it is time to wonder what the purpose of this all is and how effective he is going at it. So far it seems the purpose is at least as much to make fun of these christians and ridicule them than seriously criticizing them Almost every serious criticisism is accompanied with insensitive and stigmatizing remarks, which can always expect a reaction (which you seem to put in the category of whiny deflecting or something but in the case of relaxxx it is just what it is) Every 'side' or group has their people that wants their cake and eat it too
All I see in the OP is a video, which makes SEVERAL points that could potentially prompt discussion with a quote from it, followed by a couple posts that don't address either. That seems like an awful lot of speculating in regards to relaxxx's intentions based on the OP.. I've seen a few of the videos he's posted, aside from the videos all being from the same series/producer, most of the issues discussed are fairly varied.
I'm talking about his own words accompanying said vids. Even if he would poop out a thread without all these offensive and insensitive remarks (seems impossible ) he still has made so many that he would still be the best example on this forum. Well Maelstrom/FierceFlower also comes to mind. Sure they did have a good point at times but they always ruin it with their wording, which makes it slightly distorted, out of context, needlessly offensive, stigmatizing, etc. etc. etc. You may find it annoying that other people focus on that stuff a lot of the time, but hey imagine if people like the OP leave it out anyway. There would be no excuse to focus on the insults and ridicule These lousy directions that these threads generally take are all on the OP. He rather jokes, insult and ridicules than make a consistently serious thread. He seems more annoyed by replies of a person like Okiefreak, than glad that he had a person sharing his christian thoughts on the matter edit: spelling...
