Has anyone ever tried just setting a recorder out in the woods? What if you performed that experiment and NEVER heard a tree fall? That would be weird.
So,if no-one actually knows what a falling tree sounds like, how will we know when we DO hear one fall?
Right. So,taking the sum of the last two posts [^] I'm strolling through the woods thinking happy thoughts, when suddenly I hear what seems a familar sound and think "Oh-here comes a chicken". Two seconds later my head is sticking out of the ground, there's a tree on top of me,I'm spitting out leaves and bark, and thinking "DAMN,the chickens are heavy in these parts!"
Depends on where the chicken is at the time... In the tree or on the ground. You do not want to hear the sound if the chicken is flying... You will have to be shot to put you out of your misery.
BETTER question? Harrumph! Ok,so if the pigeon, the chicken and the tree don't ask any questions-is anyone looking?
AH,GOTCHA! See,you don't KNOW the pigeon saw it,as you weren't there! So if the pigeon DID see the chicken bring down a tree silently-he'll keep it secret!
Hang on Tyr-wouldn't the carrier pigeon have a message written by the chicken saying "The tree just went CRASH! as it fell over",tied to it's leg?
