yep, it's an epidemic of sorts around these parts, too. Just became even more so now. Even less reason to carry around a burdensome job.
I've always looked at it like this. If they can live with themselves, that's their choice. Wether or not they are on welfare or not, I will not have any more money in my pocket. Or perhaps I will have less when they come and steal from me if they aren't collecting it.
welfare is bullshit. if a person can't survive, the last thing we should be doing as a society is coddling them and enabling them to contribute their weakness to the gene pool.
I never said it curbed criminal behavior... Tell me... if you are faced with letting your kids starve, or stealing, which will you choose? That is what welfare eliminates. The criminals will be criminals no matter what you do to them.
welfare doesn't eliminate that here.. what happens is they spend their check on crack, pills, and booze then steal to sustain everything else. or vice versa
without it, most people just get jobs and suck it up. it's a helper, not a lifestyle. criminals will still be criminals, agreed, but they'll be criminals without a welfare check.
Once again, I am not talking about the criminals. I am talking about the people who can't find a job. Unless of course you are suggesting there are enough jobs for everyone? Every single unemployed person is choosing to be unemployed? Now who is being the 'romantic'
I think there are fundamental differences between Canadian and US society, so this conversation will go nowhere
Why, because I won't accept your false notion that all anyone has to do is go look to find a job? That is what you said wasn't it? The only way this statement makes any sense is if you believe that anyone without a job is jobless by choice, otherwise, how is it possible for them to 'just suck it up and get a job'?
i said most people. i'm not going to get into a skim, skew and repeat war with you. it's a waste of time. i say i don't like people taking advantage of welfare, you say i wanna put starving people in jail. i said i don't mind people using welfare when they need it, you say i wanna kick them all off because their bums who need to get a job. meh.
Man, I know some very nice people who are on every program they can be and they and their kids have better shit than we do after years of struggling, scraping, paying our debts and heavy health care costs and still they want more. If they didn't have their expensive car, dinners out, tvs and cable and phones and parties they could pony up for some of their own costs.
you know, i know damned well there are situations that just go from bad to worse and stay there, endlessly. but i'm not in the ghetto. i understand people lose their jobs and it takes a while to get a new one and they need help in the interim. i got that. i not only sympathize, i'll dig up the necessary phone numbers for you. but if you're in that situation and come into a windfall and you spend it on shit you don't need, you're a jackass. and if you bitch to me about the terrible state of the health care system when you haven't paid for your kids doctor visits in over a year, i may bite your nose.
Fine then don't go through it all (except you just did)... how about you just answer my question that you ignored. What would you do if faced with the choice of letting your kids starve or stealing?
good god, i'd steal. duh. but we don't have that issue and i never once said i resent starving people using welfare. you skimmed over that bit that was implicitly answered already.
Some people believe society owes them something and hard work and struggle are something other people do Hotwater
