Uhm, you had really strong divides by stereotypes back then as well? And the sixties are too much credited for reformations and revolutions in my opinion. It's not the foundation at all! It started long before this particular decade when it became a mediahype and the ideals of a new subculture.

Anyway, not much more tragic in my opinion then a person seriously believing they're born in the wrong age and are one of the few people with originality out there. People always have originality and creativity, they won't always make the music you like though. That's probably the difference.
And there's a lot more good music these days then you seem to think. The music you like just isn't played a lot on the radio anymore. If you don't like rap just ignore it, it's not the only music of today.
Radio and tv are not the ideal ways anymore to find this music though. Yeah, you have to search. That's a serious bummer, but that it's not on the radio like in the 60's doesn't say shit nowadays. When your kind of music is not trendy you have to find other ways to get it somehow under peoples' attention. You really think a guitarist like Jimi would make it these days to the big crowd?

Havent posted in here n a bit but happened to see I was quoted. And you're right, there is still sum good stuff out there but you kind of have to seek it out yourself or from others. Radio tends to stick to certain genres and there really is no in between in the type of media. I also agree with living for now... I stated earlier that I thought I was born in the wrong generation but the more I think about it, that was a bad statement. I do live for now sooo much and enjoy my life to the most extreme but a mind can't help but wander!!

Speaking for myself only here... but I dont believe I could afford to smoke nemore then I already do, I believe this could be the same for many people! Also... its not the herbage its the government, in my opinion that is. This era still has a lot of good going for it.... youve gotta seek it tho. Anything worth doing isnt always easily obtained!! Live and love life!

I think your government is generally on the same track as back then. And I know for sure there isn't less weed smoked in the world. People are also not more cynical, unhappy, superficial and so on then 50 years ago. There's the same amount of shit and the same amount of joy.
Only difference is if you had hippie aspirations back then you could easily live in the now because it was the thing to be back then for adolescents, party people etc.
Nowadays adolescents and party people just blend in with the fun and trends at the moment, but the more hippieminded people so to speak are dreaming of a new sixties kind of era. This is one of the biggest contradictions for a hippieminded person in my opinion, to not be in the now and experience and love life at it's fullest but to keep on lingering in a romanticized past that is really not more special than the present.

i've always kind of felt like i should have been born in about 1945, but you still have to remember hippys didn't fit in even during the 60's, they were freaks. i look at the 60's more as a time when democracy actually worked and people had at least some say in their government, not as a hippy thing, even though i think most people think hippy when they think 60's.

does any of that make sense?

Yeah it makes sense! I wouldnt say this is a fact but something Ive read along the way... but it was frowned upon for a long time to even wear a peace sign. People thought u wasnt supporting your country or some shit like that. I read in article somewhere that a lady once made a reef in the shape of a peace sign and hung it on her porch and she got arrested! How crazy is that if these things are true?

Fortunately a bit less crazy if it would have happened in these days. Yeah, we humans come from a long way. These kind of things probably still happen every day in certain other countries though.

haha i'm glad that at least makes some sense, i wasn't exactly in the most natural state of mind. what i was trying to say is that, during the 60's, people significantly changed this country for the better with the civil rights movement and the vietnam protests. you can say whatever you want about the protests not ending the war, but that was really one of the only times in history that people have organized and helped end a war. to me, there were a lot of really lazy hippys that just smoked a bunch of grass and bitched about stuff, the heroes to me were the yippies and the sds and groups like that.

    Will, someone who sees. ;)
As someone who was there I can say that the sixties are over romanticized. There a lot to be said for being alive now. If you are young the world is yours. Enjoy it. You'll not have another chance like this ever. Seize the now. Let the sixties be. Make now the stuff that future generation talk about.

Its mostly just how the media portrays everything back then. All the stoner movies that were supposedly portrayed in that era, dazed n confused that sorta thing ya know? So people now see it as the highlight for drug usage and all peace but truth be told its the same in every era and soon when this era is long n gone they will go on to make movies and what not about it and there will be another young generation stepping up and saying that they wish they lived back then. I would have loved to just be a part of every era because so many good awesome and bad things have happened through everyone and it would just be an awesome experience, but i love where Im at and if the circumstances had been different then I would have been different too!:D
