I want to run away and join a monastery.

    Do you want to live life the way it is depicted in a documentary, playing the monk games and doing the monk business, fulfilling the role of "Theravada" or do you want your consciousness to be more aware and in tune? You may find those are two different goals. The first clue to this may be "why are there many more mahayana buddhists than theravada buddhists?" This question is not asked to steer your attention and intention away from theravada and towards mahayana, it is asked so you are aware your attention and intention have a fixed philosophical and practical vector, a heading in conceptual space; enlightenment has no location, so it may be especially hard to find "out there", wherever "there" may be :)
