It's a game and the odds are stacked- mostly because people refuse to participate in the process- and I'm NOT referring to just voting. We don't question the process. We're effectively programmed with the self-perpetuating idea that we can't possibly make any difference so we don't try. The game is new jeopardy and the host may as well be Alex Trebec and there's a slight rule change; since we as a people don't ask any questions the answer must be in the form of a blanket statement... the clue will be delivered in the form of a question... The category: Fascism and the hint: Why don't voters effect meaningful change in a system supposedly designed for their participation?

this reminds me of something random that happened a coupla years ago - i was in my night club back in the uk, and this 19 or 20 year old guy comes up to me with a drink in hand, and a chain that needed fixing, as i was fixing his chain for him, he started telling me that he was on leave from the weapons training establishment that was just up the road, and as he was getting more drunk he was starting to tear up and get emotional, telling me about how he had just got back from his first tour of duty in iraq and had been forced to shoot a kid of about 7 years old because he was approaching their convoy with a bag in his hand and didn't understand the calls for him to stop and lay face down on the ground.

the kid died, from a gunshot wound to his head.

the bag he was carrying had the usual stuff that kids carry around. a coupla toys. a book. a can of coca-cola.

i don't remember what the soldier looked like or his name, i just remember fixing his chain for him, having a few beers with him and the story he told me.

i probably put this up in the thread already, but its a long thread riddled with insults and i can't be bothered to search thru so much bullshit with people calling each other deuchbags and shit to try and find it.

way to carry on a reasonable argument - lets degrade both sides with a war of insults, slanging and shite.... as the saying goes war is a continuation of diplomacy by other means.


diplomacy originally being the western world selling the weapons along with levi's jeans and coca-cola to iraq in return for oil trading privileges, then having to find a way to end the oil embargo that was introduced because of the gulf war part I by removing a government that had fallen out of favour with voters.

the war has/had nothing to do with 9/11, and nothing to do with rescuing the impoverished tortured and abused inhabitants of the iraq area... the western world ignored saddam's torture of his own subjects for many many years ... and the hunt for and the trial of hussein (although morally justifiable in return for so many human rights abuses) was just publicized so much in order to provide a political justification for the invasion.

if the war had been about 9/11 then saudi arabia and other areas would have been invaded (oh sorry liberated) instead/as well. however, saudi arabia (despite numerous human rights violations too) was never under any oil embargo, and has steady diplomatic relations with the us.

 

I am against the war, but i do wish you a safe return home.

 

Yep, just another thing that shows that the governments of the world don't give a damn about there soldiers or any citizen for that matter. They are just toy soldiers in there war games.

mmm governments are not nice and they use you and bla bla bla, but the fact of the matter is that without war our planet and race would be doomed... The world should have come to the conclusion by now that war is unavoidable. Theres no way in hell that all the people on earth could agree to a rule saying they cant go to war.

But if the worlds biggest dickheads didnt speak on behalf of the people, maybe most wars could be stopped.

This is the most ridiculous thread I've ever seen. Yes, let's all revel in how great it is to kill terrorists! More hate?! Honey, there can't even be any more hate than this. This guy obviously has no clue what he's getting into. War isn't "all in good fun", and maybe when he comes back he'll finally understand that.

War is war. People die and are tortured and bleed and hurt. Yeah, maybe it's not YOUR son or daughter or brother or friend.. but they are someone's. And they have just as much value as this poster. I don't think I've ever been so angry in my life.

I got to the 4th page, before I finished laughing me arse off... I think it is funny how these people have their "pacisfistic" ideas that involve wishing harm to him, haha. Hippocrites. I also like how people are like "The hippie thing to do is..." when the hippies varied GREATLY in their deffinitions of anything! You had Ghandi hippies, yeah! But you also had Abbie Hoffman hippies who made molotov (sp) cocktails and started riots! There is no "hippie thought". Being a pacifist and being a hippie don't go hand in hand.

Whether or not you LIKE the way, the OP is going to Iraq. He's doing what he thinks is right. I used to be in the dis the soldiers boat too, until I MET some, and honestly those "baby killers" are better people than a lot of you soldier-hating hippocrites could ever wish to be! I've never had a whiney-wannabe-hippie buy me a meal, or teach me how to defend myself, or help me fix my car... But I have had soldiers do that stuff for me.

My suggestion to you all is you think about it... Be against the war all you want but the bottom line is that the OP is going there, doing what he beleives is right... He sees a problem that needs fixed. Now you all seem to see problems very easilly, but what are YOU doing to fix them besides sitting behind your computer typing a big talk that you wouldn't back up?

 

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! I also think the "all in good fun" remark was funny, since everyone thought the OP really took it that litterally, hahaha. That seems to be the number one arguement against him, and it was a joke! People can't even see that, haha.

My orders changed, and I won't be in the Middle East until January 2009. Blah blah blah. But when that time comes I'll be in the desert with a college degree that will have cost me absolutely nothing! Haha. Go Army. :H
