Secession of what? From what? Are you talking Civil War timeframe or Revolutionary war? When I say "founded upon," I mean Jeffersonian/Jacksonian republicanism. In fact, states' rights is an inherently Republican ideal. And, yes, I am in favor of it. As I assumed somewhat incorrectly your political affiliation, you incorrectly assumed mine. I guess we can both be faulted for that. In the long run, FDR was one of the worst presidents in the history of the United States. What he did was short term only. He took power that was not given to him under the Constitution and ran with it. Really? What is the task then? That is the problem with the mentality of this war. We think we can treat this war like any other, like it isn't a religious war. IT IS. Just because Americans aren't fighting for a religious belief, doesn't mean that it isn't religiously based. This conflict didn't start because of us, and it didn't start because of any recent dictatorship or war. It started too long ago to believe that American intervention can solve the conflict within the next 30 years.
for someone who holds such disdain for labels you certainly seem free with them, get some extra orange impression tape for christmas?
I'm not really sure if I get what your saying. But if I do, I think people with opinions like yours are exactly what the USA could do without. As for the rest of this seemingly never-ending argument, good luck to you all. I've had enough of this go-nowhere crap. Peace, A.

You may think you are going there to help the Iraqi people and help rebuild and denfend it, but its all bullshit. Its all about oil. I'm not just talkinf out my ass either, I've went to several speechs by Iraq Verterens who are now agaisnt the war in Iraq. One of them metioned that they once had no room on their Humvee to fit the relief medical packages and food for a village in Iraq, because they so many weapons on board. He asked his suporiors what do about that. They said to just leave the medical supplies at the base and said it no big deal. He also metioned how muvh he wanted to help that village in Iraq but they never did. They had no go secure the oil. Iraq would be a much more peaceful place if the US just left it alone. The Iraqis are fighting agaisnt the occupation of their country, they are not terrorists. What would do if another country invaded the US and were occupying us? Probibly the same thing the insurgents are doing. I pray you come alive, and I hope when you do come home you open your eyes and relize the truth like many Iraq Veterans have.
i proudly stand here on the bloody heap of this thread waving my flag and declare myself to be the victor in the name of everything that i consider to be right.
I'm signing up today, because the only way to defend the people of Iraq is to kill them before they accidentally rebuild their own country without installing an American military foothold.
If not for people like Chuck, you guys would be getting drafted and going to war yourselves. You should thank him whether you agree with the war or not (who does).
A draft would at least inspire more people to involve themselves in a corrupt political system. People like Chuck insulate the rest of us from feeling the urgency to actually affect change. No one knows better than the government that enacting a draft will sound a death knell for its existence. Manning a military without draftees enables the United States government to create global trouble without our say-so.
Just another paid mercenary in Bush's Christian Crusade doing the Corporation's bidding. May you see the light before you die.
Ahhh- with iron-clad reasoning like this I can hardly imagine how a neo-con would be able to summon the fortitude to resist. Are you available for political speech writing?
