They're doing what they're paid to do. They didn't write the laws, they're enforcing them. Yes, some cops are ego-maniacal assholes. There are also plenty that truly care about what you're doing.

It's just fucking ridiculous how much more they'll let you off if you're civil, compliant, and respectful to what they ask. Granted no charges are better than some charged, but if you get caught running... you're fucked.
