People will be people, and put other people down for not being like them. So you gotta learn to express yourself and let the things you can't control roll off your back.
I just wear whatever I want and don't bother with anyone's sideways glances...sometimes it makes me laugh though...I have purple hair these days and live in a small, conservative town in Cape Breton...I get stares ALL the time, so perhaps they look too much at my hair and don't notice my clothing, lol. I get the biggest kick out of little kids who stop and holler "mommy, look at that lady - she has purple hair!" I just smile at them and move on. funny thing is, with my clothes, piercings and purple hair, I work as a social worker for a government sponsored agency and none of my clients mind, although my boss has dropped a comment or two. My reply to him was that if you say anything about my appearance, I will only make it more drastic and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it...he leaves well enough alone. After all, he hired me with pink hair and piercings in the first place, over two years ago...
