Thank you for that post morrow. Well my Wife and lived in Northampton for 25 years so not far from Peterborough, so been there a few times. Absolutely I would not wish to live there, and yes. Something has to be done. 1. Peterborough Top of the pile, somewhat surprisingly, is one of the country's oldest cities and home to one of its finest cathedrals. Despite attractions such as a Bronze Age village and the Burghley House stately home, Peterborough has failed to impress its 200,000 dwellers. Critics have voted it into the top spot of the annual list for the first time, with one describing it as 'the biggest dump in England with aggressive and inbred residents'. Another critic warned: 'You feel totally isolated from the rest of the world and life in general, as though everything else is going on and you're not part of it as you're stuck in this dump. Take a trip into the town centre and it's like walking onto the set of the 'Walking Dead' - every manner of inbred mutant adorns the streets.
I do disagree there. I have seen insults thrown, but usually at Balbus, not by him. He writes well formed arguments and asks reasonable questions.
Booze It’s a small world I grew up in Brixworth and elsewhere in Northamptonshire my mum still lives there and and my sister also lives near to Peterborough. LOL one moment you are crowing about so many there going to vote for the Brexit Party then you imply you think the residents are inbreds? Sorry there are lots of places hurting from 30 years of neoliberalism, I also lived near to Corby and I saw what the closing of the steelworks did. So how is voting for a bunch of right wing neoliberals like the majority of those calling for Brexit going to help?
Drift Thank you - but it fits the victim narrative that often surfaces on the right – oh alas poor me they all hate me - to hide the fact they are not answering questions or addressing criticisms Nigel Farage uses it going on about BBC left wing bias etc whenever he wants to duck a difficult question.
Mal BUT I'm unsure of the reasons why you have your views because - you seem unable to explain them or discuss them How do you know if they are good reasons or bad reasons when you seem unable to defend them from criticism?
Leavers Look I really do want to understand why leavers want to leave, just repeating slogans like ‘Brexit means Brexit’ at me doesn’t give me that understanding - telling me I’m fucking stupid or as thick as a plank for not just understanding doesn’t help me to actually gain understanding. And the thing is why can’t you just explain your views in a clear and coherent way? Why does it seem such a big problem to you to explain your thinking?
Perhaps Its because people have a life and don't feel like spending it arguing about it with you ? I said " I don't want to become part of an EU superstate ! " You said you would be happy to ! You being happy to is all about YOU not me , If you can't understand that then its not MY problem Not gonna go round and round with it ad infinitum
Mal Yes I have a life others have lives but leavers seem to want to hurt the country and my family and like you they don’t seem to know why. I would like to understand why they want to hurt us. Thing is I and other have explained why we think Brexit is a bad idea you don’t refute those things and you have put forward stuff that has been criticised but you refuse to address the criticisms. You seem to be pumping out the leaver propaganda but you don’t seem to have given it much thought or questioned it and when asked to discuss it you refuse. You say you could do research, but have you? You think my views are stupid, that’s fine, then explain why you think they’re stupid in a rational and reasonable way and address the outstanding criticisms of your stance. Because so far you seem unable to do that and if you can’t shouldn’t you be asking yourself why you can’t? But you don’t seem to be able to explain what you mean by that so are unable to explain why not?
I did NOT imply that at all, and as usual you twist my meaning, and NO. I am not prepared to spend an hour answering your questions about that. Yes I worked for British Timken factory n Duston Northampton for 25 years. But the American firm closed it down and shipped everything to Poland and India. I was made redundant at that time, so Wifey and I moved to North Wales and we have not looked back since. We own a lovely ground floor apartment with sea views, and just over the road to a few mile long promenade. It will help get our country back from being ruled by Brussels. Simples! I have nothing further to say, so please make the most of what I just said. O.K.? O.K.!
Booze Then why post stuff that described the inhabitants as inbred, what were you meaning to imply? “with aggressive and inbred residents” “every manner of inbred mutant adorns the streets” Well hell - it gets even smaller I believe a school friend of mine’s dad worked for Timken they lived at Broughton and his dad used to give me castoffs of the bearings as gifts. Have been to North Wales a few times have friends in mid-Wales living near Llanidloes But as explained it isn’t ruled by Brussels and that has been explained to you and you haven’t refuted what’s been said and now you say you are running away again.
As a remainer I’m not trying to be evasive or refusing to explain my thinking I’m very happy to answer questions and address criticisms, that is part of debate and this is a debating forum. But the remainers seem to be the very opposite, they make up excuses why they can’t talk, they out and out refuse to explain their thinking, they moan about even been asked questions and they dismiss criticisms without addressing them. To go back to the second-hand car story again You go to one person who has the cars current MOT, the log book, can answer all your questions about it, clearly and distinctly, lets you look at the engine and anything else and is happy to give you a test drive. And then there is another seller who has none of the paperwork (can give them to you later after you hand over the money) who refuses to answer any of your questions about it, will not allow you to look under the bonnet or check for rust, and says he doesn’t have the keys right now so can’t give you a test drive - but who keeps telling you very loudly that it’s a GREAT car, the BEST car, a WONDERFUL RUNNER’ Honestly which car would you most likely buy?
But we don't understand your reasons. This isn't about me wanting to remain, or not liking that other people want to leave.. If I ask someone who says "yes, I do want to be part of the EU superstate" WHY they want that, they will tell me all these things that would be beneficial about it.. When I ask you or Boozer what will be better when we are out of it, what does "taking control" actually mean in practice, what rule from the EU was oppressing you so badly... Crickets chirping. Basically the reasons you think you're giving aren't reasons.. they have no substance. They have no actual meaning. If you could tell me the specifics of why/how leaving will make life in this country better, I'd seriously consider them and if I thought they made sense I'd support leaving. Balbus often gets accused of not reading posts, but again, reading the back and forth, it looks more like his posts are not being read.
How many times The fucking car has been sold already ! This is not the Debating forum by the way its the Brexit party forum !
Yep. The car has been sold. Now we're waiting to see how many miles it goes before it bursts into a fireball ; )
Well it is right now Friday 7th June 2019 and 12.30am. I am watching the Andrew Neil program This Week on BBC 1. Around 3.15am the Peterborough result should be announced and I am staying up to watch that result. I am reinforced by a couple real ale beers. I love this political stuff. Come on The Brexit Party. Come on and win this damn bye election. Goodbye Labour Party. Goodbye Conservative Party. Goodbye EU. Hello The WORLD!
OK Labour won the Peterborough by election but yes The Brexit Party did came second but again I’d like to know what those that did voted BP thought they were voting for?
Mal But who did you buy the car from – let’s look at the people again You go to one person who has the cars current MOT, the log book, can answer all your questions about it, clearly and distinctly, lets you look at the engine and anything else and is happy to give you a test drive. (the remainers here) And then there is another seller who has none of the paperwork (can give them to you later after you hand over the money) who refuses to answer any of your questions about it, will not allow you to look under the bonnet or check for rust, and says he doesn’t have the keys right now so can’t give you a test drive - but who keeps telling you very loudly that it’s a GREAT car, the BEST car, a WONDERFUL RUNNER’ (the leavers here) So who did you buy the car from? And the law is that if you notice a fault soon after buying a car and you haven't been told about it, you could demand a refund. You still have time if you have been sold a dud
So although Labour won the seat by a poxy 683 votes this is never the less a wonderful result for The Brexit Party: UK Home | Daily Mail Online Corbyn is measuring up the curtains at No10: Boris warns feuding Tories after Labour by-election victory - as Farage says he WILL sabotage the Conservatives by splitting the vote at an election unless Brexit is delivered Lisa Forbes won 10,484 votes, beating Mike Greene by just 683 with 9,801 with Tories in third on 7,243 Labour got 30.9% of the vote, Brexit Party got 28.9% and Tories just 21.4% - showing how Brexiteer vote split Peterborough election was called after ex-Labour MP Fiona Onasanya was sacked by voters after being jailed Labour's Ms Forbes narrowly won by-election vote despite her own anti-Semitism scandal last week
To follow on from my post above From what I can tell the Brexit Party doesn’t have a manifesto but have said they want a Brexit on World Trade Organisation terms and they will not pay the £39 billion that we owe to the EU because of already contracted obligations. Basically pissing off our largest trading market and putting the UK in the worse position possible in relation to trade negotiations with them and the rest of the world. I wonder if these people understand the implications of that madness?
