Oh, hey! Thanx for reminding me! i have sigs hidden, but have been meaning to go back in and insert the marks around the Carlyle quote! :cheers2:
Have you read much of his work? Sartor Resartus is pure mad genius. He is also rather racist in some of his writing, which is awesome.
i was just thinking about the fact that, for ALL that i read, and i read a LOT ~ (and, in fact, this thread sort of started me thinking about it) ~ i read pure, unadulterated CRAP and i'm wasting my eyesight on dumbing myself down so it must stop. In answer to your question: Alas, no ~ i was too busy with Ludlum, Lustbader, Asimov, Bradbury, Clancy, King (what a HACK! ), Kuntz, etc., etc. HOWEVER, i've just made a new year's resolution to read some decent stuff! Thank you! i'll start with your recommendation. (Up to this point, i've been pretty isolated ~ i read a lot, but have no earthly idea of how to pronounce the words, because folks don't use most of them in casual conversation. Thank God for the online dictionary, WITH pronounciations! Anyway, along with not being able to hear the words, used, i've also not had anyone to discuss things with. Now that i have the internet, though, i really SHOULD be using it to better myself ~ that free college, online, is kick-ass, and there are a WORLD of forums out there, to discuss ANYthing!)
Oh, hey! It IS in english, isn't it? (If i have to learn another language first, i might want to put it on the back burner! )
Carlyle is very heavy stuff, compared to what you're used to reading... But you might just enjoy it. You can compare him to an early, and much more intelligent version of William Burroughs.
I Fell off my Bike today and Felt Suicidal... Then E Dragged me back onto Bike and I No Longer felt that Way... Must have been an pms Episode...
Awww, i'm not much into heavy stuff... In fact, in the way of poetry, i can only think of maybe 4 poets i enjoy (other than most of the poetry of the lyrics of songs): a poem by Algernon Charles Swinburne, The Garden of Proserpine; a poet named Robert Service, particularly his poetry about Alaska; Edgar Allen Poe; and Dean Koontz, his on-going The Book of Counted Sorrows. Yeppers, i'm just that unsophisticated... When you're growing up, and your mind gets ahead of your chronological age, children's poetry gets old, real quick...
i used to feel that way about King, but i think his wife is editing for him now, and his stuff has sure improved. It's funny, because i got Koontz mixed up with King and Robin Cook (gag me with a spoon), and so it hasn't been until just the past few years that i began reading him. When i finally did, i was amazed ~ he's actually rather good, imho.
King is one of the most original writers of all time, though I can see how he isn't for everyone. I love him though.
