pull up your fucking pants https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnMDrv8Mx3E almost as annoying is scene, then emo, but at least they have punk kids to beat up on them and are less retarded/crime related.
Every culture has had its good parts and its bad parts. I just can't think of any good parts for the gangster culture yet....
A large sum of our population are insecure enough to want to emulate the hardasses who are actually dangerous, to appear dangerous themselves. Just like any child imitating an adored parent/idol, they adopt speech/dialect, clothing styles and general behavior as far as they can. I wonder if we could fix that?
this tread makes me fucking sick. i can understand why someone might not like it but unless people HARM YOU shut the fuck up and let people do what they feel. who gives a fuck how people dress unless it hurts you, and you know what i mean. look back over the years and every generation makes fun of the next and the previous. i feel the vide in this tread is a lot of "white" frustration/ager.
I feel that anyone trying to argue the point against the original poster has a tough one to make. It's obviously a culture that glorifies many aspects of all things negative in society. You simply cannot dispute that. Even in regards to their music and overall message, just listen to MOST of the lyrics in the average rap song. It clearly tends to promote and glorify violence and an attitude that is negative in nearly every way. There ARE exceptions, as with everything. We're not saying everyone in this sub culture is black or evil or anything either. There are white, black, asian, latino, and countless other "gangsta's" out there and none of them are any less to blame for the violent actions or attitudes in their way of life. Stereotypes are given for a reason...I'm not one to stereotype or judge personally, but people don't get these impressions about others or other subcultures for no reason. It is a truly negative lifestyle that has done way more harm for society and any of it's followers (old or young) than it has good. It also seems absurd to me that people are disputing the rise in political interest among American minorities since Obama's campaign and victory. I voted for Obama. I think he will do well, at least I hope. But I voted for him because I like his policies and his views. I think he is the right man for the job, but unlike many, many of his voters, especially minority voters, he won my vote for who he is, not what he is There is actually an amusing video on YouTube (link???) that features a radio show host interviewing minority voters about why they chose Obama, only they switch McCain's stances with Obama's to see if any of them even notice. Most didn't. They didn't even know what he stood for, they just saw his skin color and that was enough. I think that is where our true debate lies.
The rap culture for the most part just perpetuates and sells its own image. There are good rappers out there spreading a good word, Everlast and Immortal Technique come to mind. The biggest downside to this whole rap culture is that they belive in using their fists to show their anger rather than resolve it with words. Also they show complete disregard for the world around them, they take and take and belive there will be more for them to take later without any work on their own behalf. The best thing is this is merely a trend much like any other that has come before it and if you look at the media now-a-days you see that it is not dominated by rap culture like it once was, now we have the emo trend. I never thought i would say this but damn am i glad those guys took over the media.
man we just had a gang fight at my school that half the junior class was involved in. Over some stupid fucking pride over being a "goon" as they call it here. It's ridiculous. People actually fight over their area codes! Mine is 954, and their biggest enemy is 305. People wear hats that have these numbers on them. Rather than fight about who has an actual personality, they know they are void of one and would rather fight over stupid shit like this and keep the stereotype going. Idiots.
i'd expect more tolerance out of hippies. gangster culture is like any other new subculture. seen as bullshit gonna ruin youth/end the world for a few years until it sorta becomes part of the norm. no different than hippies way back when. anyway, yeah, i figure in twenty years people'll be bitching about a different subculture. but again, im seriously surprised by the intolerance of some of hippies here. at second glance, most of the people here bitching about gangster culture are like 17-19 so i figure maybe some of them got bullied by thugs? hell if i know. essentially: who cares what clothes you wear, music you listen to, slang you use. people are people man.
You don't seem to know anything about these people. They cause destruction for no reason, they have ripped me off on weed deals many times. They act like they are better then everybody but they don't realize how foolish they are being. I don't see why its cool for everybody to see your boxers, especially when they have a belt on, its just not tight. I remember in school some guy was talking to his wigger buddies about how he could get an ak47, first off we're in a almost crimeless city so there is no reason for a gun, exp not an assault riffle. Plus the guy said he could get ammo for it and I really doubt that. They just suck.
actually, i know quite a few. i have some friends that rip people off. if you get ripped off, it's your fault. don't front your cash, learn to eye shit out, and try not to buy shit off people you don't know to trust when you can help it. more than just people of the gangster clique will rip you off anyway. and as far as getting shot, some of them are real gangsters. i went to a rich suburban high school and we even had some real gangsters there. ...and as far as someone in your town getting an ak, unless you've seen them with a gun, don't believe it. people talk all kinds of bullshit. i really don't understand how someone else's clothing style can bother you. the same sort of shit could be (and is) said about hippies and their long hair. you're in high school anyway, which makes it seem like you're just clique bashing. fuck dem emos and shit.
ah well, folks on this thread do seem rather judgemental but you'd have to ignore the difference between a string of love beads and a gun to equate one generation's expression of youthful rebellion with the other's. while the hippies had communes and love-ins the gangstas have street gangs and drive by shootings. i can certainly understand being contemptous of a subculture that is based in the glorification of avarice, illiteracy, mysogeny and violence.
you don't understand how someone else's clothing can bother folks? i hope you're just being obtuse. in case you're not i'll explain. when you wear a specific uniform you will be indentified with the group which that uniform represents. when marine wears his uniform everyone assumes he's a marine. when someone grows out their hair, wears tye dye and ragged blue jeans with a macrame hemp belt everyone is going to assume he's a hippy. see how that works? so if you wear the seat of your pants dragging behind your knees with your boxers showing, a T shirt 6 sizes too big and flail your fist around while referring to women as hos everyone is going to assume your a gangsta. and since gangstas have a general reputation for being thieving, drug dealing, woman beating, gun toting thugs the wearing of a gangsta uniform will bother some folks. understand?
Us gangsta' ass foo's hate chu to, yo. Seriously though, oh well, it'll pass and if not isn't that a good thing? Overpopulation sucks, ask africa, they're just sliming the numbers.
Yeah, g-shit is going to be laughed upon when they all get older. I dont hate them, its just really dumb.
have you ever been brutally assaulted by someone's baggy clothes? i don't care what they "stand for" to a 17 year old cliquey emo-hating kid. it's not like it's a swastica or anything. by the way, the same shit was said about long hair in the 70s. reminds me of that song "signs" ..."long haired freaky people need not apply"
It's a flipside of the same coin. Like individuals, society too has its' shadow. I may not like my shadow, but I know I am the one generating it.
the mob is the real thing, its a business, being a "thug" equates to being a twat with an attitude problem, racial bias that is unfounded, bad music, lack of education, and over sized clothes
