*hippie* is just a term to label people, it doesn't really mean anything.
If people want to say they are hippies, then it doesn't bother me. I mean people who really have hippie values don't label themselves as hippies anyways, so its all just a confusing cycle.

 

Needless to say, "Hippie" means a great deal!!!
Have a look, for instance, at Skip Stone's book on this site, or hook up a beer and a joint and stick on the Woodstock vid, or just have a listen to The Doors, or even go canvass for your local Green Party for the day; if none of these things stir your senses and soul beyond the "hippie is a label" idea then I'd be surprised.

ANYONE thinking "hippie" is just a label and that behind it there's just some kind of meaningless vacuum totally misses the point of it all.

Which is a shame, because the point is a good one.
