You do know that it can cause cysts on your ovaries (my friend actually got cysts on hers she is 21 like me) and my friend says it has to be put in when you're on your period. You bleed for a month straight and if you get pregnant with it, you could die. It is also supposed to hurt like a bitch if you haven't given birth.

I considered it once, but I'm not gonna risk being sterile just because I didn't want to put a pill in my mouth daily. I want kids and its not something I'm willing to give up for ease.

yeah but thats 1 out of 99 people. Im sure ill be okay with it. I did just fine with the pill for 2 years-3 years

dont be so ignorant. every body is different. Im scared with the pill now, miss one day and you can be screwed. Mirena? Not so much

You can still get pregnant on Mirena. I'm not the one being ignorant I've at least researched it. And at least if you're on the pill and get pregnant you don't risk dying. I think it is just pure laziness to get it just because you're afraid you'll miss a day. Its called responsibility.

I was at least letting you know the risks of it. If you choose to ignore them fine, it'll be your problem in the long run when you can't have kids because you have cysts on your ovaries.

There are bad sides to every method of contraception! Mirena has a much higher success rate than the pill and probably won't kill you if you get pregnant. You probably won't get cysts on your ovaries either. The pill has bad side effects too- I've just come off it mid-cycle because I was potentially close to having a stroke. I can't take the pill again. Maybe even I'd give Mirena a go!

tsk tsk. this is why kids need more teachings on health and sex

I highly highly doubt mirena would cause death during birth. if so, theyd take it off the market.

Second. its not pure laziness. its called wanting to be extra safe and less worries. i could have a job where Im not even in reach of my pills

Thank you for letting me know which I already knew them. but i doubt this will happen to me.

You're being a debbie downer *smacks hand* get smarter!

Why don't you get smarter and my doctor told me that you could die if you got pregnant with mirena, because the egg would be stuck in you tube. And I've been studying it for my pathology paper. So why don't you stop being so defensive. Its not gonna be my fault when you have cysts on your ovaries.

So you're blaming it on a job, take them before you go to work. I'm not stupid, I have a full time job and go to school full time. I still manage to take my pill on time every day. So to me it still sounds like you're being lazy.

But whatever its your choice I was just telling you the risks. Enjoy the cysts on the ovaries.

Look how stupid you are sounding. You're listening to a doctor because you probably have more riskS than me because you smoke or because you're on the heavy side. EVERY body is different dear. I have had no cyst, nothing harmed me on the pill, im OKAY to take mirena. Thats why I double checked

oh taking them hours before im SPECIFICALLY suppose to take them? thats smart.

thats YOU. not EVERYONE is YOU. I know the risks once again but im not prone to them. That last sentence made you sound really ignorant btw. If you dont like someones choice, then ass out.

Thank you dollyfizz for seeing the right side of things

hey stacy, she was warning you and you were the one being rude saying that was *her* problem when she was looking out for you, giving you the GENERAL warnings that's there for EVERYONE, not just her. And fyi, if you miss a day on the pill, as long as you take it within the next 24 hours, you're still fine. I was on it, and I researched all forms of birth control for females in depth. Just because you may have a clean bill of health throughout your life doesn't mean you won't accidently get a bad mirena, or there's something in there that interferes with your hormones in the wrong way. Nothing is certain.

That's exactly it, nothing is certain. I think if she wants to ignore the risks that is her problem, but I cannot ignore them. If one chooses to be ignorant then that is their problem not mine. I only want people to know that there are risks before taking action. The side affects outweigh the benefits in my opinion. That's the problem with medicine a lot of the the side affects are dangerous.

Its sad that doctors think medicines like ones that treat osteoarthritis. All they do is stop the inner bone from growing. Its like a pinto with a nice paint job. I'm just glad that I know these things so I can focus on what's best for myself. Doctors will never give you the straight out truth and neither will the ads for the medication. Its sad but most doctors are in it for the money.

It depends on the pill you're taking. The missed pill window was only recently extended from 3 to 12 hours for the pill I'm on. If I were to miss one pill anywhere in the pack I wouldn't be protected for the next 7 days.

There are a lot of dangerous side effects with a lot of various types of medication. Thankfully the majority of them are so extremely rare it's not worth worrying about.

Whether or not a patient considers the possible side effects of a medicine to be too risky to take, they should know what they are anyway. I actually think you're pretty sweet and unfortunately I think Stacy often suffers with an attitude problem. However, you've told her some of the possible side effects already- She knows this. It doesn't matter.

As you said, the side effects outweigh the benefits in your opinion. No medication would be readily available if there was a good chance it would do more harm than good to a patient. The chances are very slim.

I study medicine. The idea that doctors are in it just for the money is silly. Even if it's true (as I'm sure in some few cases it is) no doctor would go around prescribing medication to patients if it was known to be detrimental to their health. Mirena is readily available on the NHS in the UK. Doctors here get a wage, they don't get paid any more or less for prescribing medication such as the coil to anybody. They do it because in their professional opinion they believe it to bring benefits to the patient. Most doctors are pretty good people.

I just wish doctors would give people the whole truth. If there is something someone needs to know in my opinion it needs to be said (unless it will bring more harm then not.) There are things I learn in my pathology class that I wish I didn't know.

I have a mirena and I did research it before I got one. I had to quit taking the pill 3 years ago because the side effects from it had gotten to a point I could no longer handle. I spent 2-3 weeks out of every 4 with a constant migraine. I gave up everything in my life that could possibly causing them and yet I still had them. I had been on the pill since I was 16 because I took accutane and I was required to be on it. I have had my mirena for 2 years and just went to my ob-gyn yesterday. I was not willing to go without some form of birth control but I was also not willing to stay on the pill. Everything has risks. I don't have overian cysts and haven't had an ectopic pregnancy or a perforated uterus. For many people the mirena is a good option. and as far as mirena killing you if you get pregnant with one in -> newsflash just getting pregnant in general can kill you or cause very serious complications. Just because I or someone else choses to have a mirena does not make us a stupid or ignorant person.
