you know, i'm getting flashbacks... one trick I used was to bring the vaporizer into the bathroom, and some incense. I said the incense was to cover up the shit smell, and since it was just vapor it was undetectable. This was the first generation of vaporizers, one i brought back from BC. Smelled like toast because it always ran too hot. lol I used to take a lot of shits!
Teach her or actually learn about the history of WHY cannabis was made illegal. She's using reefer madness logic, sometimes you can't reason with the irrational. Alcohol and tobacco are scientifically proven to be more dangerous then cannabis, it's an undisputable fact. Cannabis is the least toxic drug (plant) of practically all if not all. Ask your mother why you should be punished if you're not harming anyone. If she says you're harming yourself, say how and defeat her pathetic predictable premises with knowledge. Learn the facts, and truths and spread this wisdom to your ignorant mother. Help her learn. Be honest with her that you enjoy cannabis, it makes you happy, why would she disaprove of your happiness? Tell her that this 'tough love' approach will only push you further apart, ask for her acceptance and love, not a harsh, archaic, right wing strategy. The only reason she wants to send you to a drug rehab place is because she doesn't understand, she's lost control and wants to remain the authority.
well, that's silly. marijuana does not keep you from trying any other drugs. Nor does abstaining from marijuana. I found a resource for you. http://www.addictionproofyourchild.com/ order the book and have her read it before shipping you off to rehab. I heard the guy talking on the radio and he is your best hope. You may not like everything he has to say, but it's good.
Well, tell your dad that .org just means it is non profit, and does not confer an air of legitimacy. the one i gave you is .com because it is commerce based. The guy wants to sell his book. wouldn't you? the book is more for your parents than for you, or rather, it is for you later when you have kids and start feeling the same things your parents are feeling and are tempted to be over-protective. repeat after me: it is natural for parents to want to protect their children. you can find .org sites that are legit, and other ones that are not. it is still up to you to sort out fact from bullshit. and as far as MJ is concerned, there is plenty of bullshit to go around on both sides. smoking anything is not good for your body. Weed usually burns very hot, and the smoke is a strong irritant. Is it worse for you than a bad diet? no. is it harmless? no. will it destroy your life when used in moderation? no. will the government ruin your life for you if you are caught with a decent quantity? well, unfortunately the answer is maybe. If you are white and well off, probably not. If you are already disadvantaged, or the wrong color, your chances go up. It's a mad mad mad mad world dude.
he says it doesnt count cause the guy that sells the book is probably a smoker himself and is just defending it
This was an attachment in an email my dad sent me, im in the process of reading it and it brings out all the bad stuff im sry it was in an email attachment and i couldnt figure out how to put it on here as a link -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marijuana is the most commonly abused illicit drug in the United States. It is a dry, shredded green and brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves derived from the hemp plant Cannabis sativa. The main active chemical in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol; THC for short. How is Marijuana Abused? Marijuana is usually smoked as a cigarette (joint) or in a pipe. It is also smoked in blunts, which are cigars that have been emptied of tobacco and refilled with marijuana. Since the blunt retains the tobacco leaf used to wrap the cigar, this mode of delivery combines marijuana's active ingredients with nicotine and other harmful chemicals. Marijuana can also be mixed in food or brewed as a tea. As a more concentrated, resinous form it is called hashish, and as a sticky black liquid, hash oil.* Marijuana smoke has a pungent and distinctive, usually sweet-and-sour odor. How Does Marijuana Affect the Brain? Scientists have learned a great deal about how THC acts in the brain to produce its many effects. When someone smokes marijuana, THC rapidly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream, which carries the chemical to the brain and other organs throughout the body. THC acts upon specific sites in the brain, called cannabinoid receptors, kicking off a series of cellular reactions that ultimately lead to the “high” that users experience when they smoke marijuana. Some brain areas have many cannabinoid receptors; others have few or none. The highest density of cannabinoid receptors are found in parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thoughts, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement.1 Not surprisingly, marijuana intoxication can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty in thinking and problem solving, and problems with learning and memory. Research has shown that marijuana’s adverse impact on learning and memory can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off.2 As a result, someone who smokes marijuana every day may be functioning at a suboptimal intellectual level all of the time. Research on the long-term effects of marijuana abuse indicates some changes in the brain similar to those seen after long-term abuse of other major drugs. For example, cannabinoid withdrawal in chronically exposed animals leads to an increase in the activation of the stress-response system3 and changes in the activity of nerve cells containing dopamine.4 Dopamine neurons are involved in the regulation of motivation and reward, and are directly or indirectly affected by all drugs of abuse. Addictive Potential Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction; that is, compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite its known harmful effects upon social functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities. Long-term marijuana abusers trying to quit report irritability, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and drug craving, all of which make it difficult to quit. These withdrawal symptoms begin within about 1 day following abstinence, peak at 2–3 days, and subside within 1 or 2 weeks following drug cessation.5 Marijuana and Mental Health A number of studies have shown an association between chronic marijuana use and increased rates of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and schizophrenia. Some of these studies have shown age at first use to be a factor, where early use is a marker of vulnerability to later problems. However, at this time, it not clear whether marijuana use causes mental problems, exacerbates them, or is used in attempt to self-medicate symptoms already in existence. Chronic marijuana use, especially in a very young person, may also be a marker of risk for mental illnesses, including addiction, stemming from genetic or environmental vulnerabilities, such as early exposure to stress or violence. At the present time, the strongest evidence links marijuana use and schizophrenia and/or related disorders6. High doses of marijuana can produce an acute psychotic reaction, and research suggests that in vulnerable individuals, marijuana use may be a factor that increases risk for the disease. What Other Adverse Effect Does Marijuana Have on Health? Effects on the Heart One study found that an abuser’s risk of heart attack more than quadruples in the first hour after smoking marijuana.7 The researchers suggest that such an outcome might occur from marijuana’s effects on blood pressure and heart rate (it increases both) and reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of blood. Effects on the Lungs Numerous studies have shown marijuana smoke to contain carcinogens and to be an irritant to the lungs. In fact, marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke. Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which further increases the lungs’ exposure to carcinogenic smoke. Marijuana smokers show dysregulated growth of epithelial cells in their lung tissue, which could lead to cancer;8 however, a recent case-controlled study found no positive associations between marijuana use and lung, upper respiratory, or upper digestive tract cancers.9 Thus, the link between marijuana smoking and these cancers remains unsubstantiated at this time. Nonetheless, marijuana smokers can have many of the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illness, a heightened risk of lung infections, and a greater tendency toward obstructed airways. A study of 450 individuals found that people who smoke marijuana frequently but do not smoke tobacco have more health problems and miss more days of work than nonsmokers.10 Many of the extra sick days among the marijuana smokers in the study were for respiratory illnesses. Effects on Daily Life Research clearly demonstrates that marijuana has the potential to cause problems in daily life or make a person’s existing problems worse. In one study, heavy marijuana abusers reported that the drug impaired several important measures of life achievement including physical and mental health, cognitive abilities, social life, and career status.11 Several studies associate workers’ marijuana smoking with increased absences, tardiness, accidents, workers’ compensation claims, and job turnover. What Treatment Options Exist? Behavioral interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational incentives (i.e., providing vouchers for goods or services to patients who remain abstinent) have shown efficacy in treating marijuana dependence. Although no medications are currently available, recent discoveries about the workings of the cannabinoid system offer promise for the development of medications to ease withdrawal, block the intoxicating effects of marijuana, and prevent relapse. The latest treatment data indicate that in 2006 marijuana was the most common illicit drug of abuse and was responsible for about 16 percent (289,988) of all admissions to treatment facilities in the United States. Marijuana admissions were primarily male (73.8 percent), White (51.5 percent), and young (36.1 percent were in the 15–19 age range). Those in treatment for primary marijuana abuse had begun use at an early age: 56.2 percent had abused it by age 14 and 92.5 percent had abused it by age 18.** How Widespread is Marijuana Abuse? According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, in 2006, 14.8 million Americans age 12 or older used marijuana at least once in the month prior to being surveyed, which is similar to the 2005 rate. About 6,000 people a day in 2006 used marijuana for the first time—2.2 million Americans. Of these, 63.3 percent were under age 18.*** Monitoring the Future Survey According to the 2007 Monitoring the Future survey—a national survey of 8th, 10th, and 12th graders, marijuana use has been declining since the late 1990s. Between 2000 and 2007, past-year use decreased more than 20 percent in all three grades combined. Nevertheless, marijuana use remains at unacceptably high levels, with more than 40 percent of high school seniors reporting use at least once in their lifetimes. **** Percentage of 8th-Graders Who Have Used Marijuana: Monitoring the Future Study, 2007 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 Lifetime 16.7% 19.9% 23.1% 22.6% 22.2% 22.0% 20.3% Past Year 13.0 15.8 18.3 17.7 16.9 16.5 15.6 Past Month 7.8 9.1 11.3 10.2 9.7 9.7 9.1 Daily 0.7 0.8 1.5 1.1 1.1 1.4 1.3 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 Lifetime 20.4% 19.2% 17.5% 16.3% 16.5% 15.7 14.2 Past Year 15.4 14.6 12.8 11.8 12.2 11.7 10.3 Past Month 9.2 8.3 7.5 6.4 6.6 6.5 5.7 Daily 1.3 1.2 1.0 0.8 1.0 1.0 0.8 Percentage of 10th-Graders Who Have Used Marijuana: Monitoring the Future Study, 2007 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 Lifetime 30.4% 34.1% 39.8% 42.3% 39.6% 40.9% 40.3% Past Year 25.2 28.7 33.6 34.8 31.1 32.1 32.2 Past Month 15.8 17.2 20.4 20.5 18.7 19.4 19.7 Daily 2.2 2.8 3.5 3.7 3.6 3.8 3.8 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 Lifetime 40.1% 38.7% 36.4% 35.1% 34.1% 31.8% 31.0% Past Year 32.7 30.3 28.2 27.5 26.6 25.2 24.6 Past Month 19.8 17.8 17.0 15.9 15.2 14.2 14.2 Daily 4.5 3.9 3.6 3.2 3.1 2.8 2.8 Percentage of 12th-Graders Who Have Used Marijuana Monitoring the Future Study, 2007 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 Lifetime 38.2% 41.7% 44.9% 49.6% 49.1% 49.7% 48.8% Past Year 30.7 34.7 35.8 38.5 37.5 37.8 36.5 Past Month 19.0 21.2 21.9 23.7 22.8 23.1 21.6 Daily 3.6 4.6 4.9 5.8 5.6 6.0 6.0 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 Lifetime 49.0% 47.8% 46.1% 45.7% 44.8% 42.3% 41.8% Past Year 37.0 36.2 34.9 34.3 33.6 31.5 31.7 Past Month 22.4 21.5 21.2 19.9 19.8 18.3 18.8 Daily 5.8 6.0 6.0 5.6 5.0 5.0 5.1 “Lifetime” refers to use at least once during a respondent’s lifetime. “Past year” refers to use at least once during the year preceding an individual’s response to the survey. “Past month” refers to use at least once during the 30 days preceding an individual’s response to the survey.
what would be good to combat that is an article on how the National institute of drug abuse is lying about some of these things, which they are ?
update: we talked on the phone and he wants me to promise him with my heart and conscious that i will quit (cause i already promised once before). i said "so ur gna give me a drug test and if i pass ull help me get a car?" and he said, theres ways to cheat it and i dont wanna drug test u, i dont wanna be your police, i just wanna trust ur word cause im a man of my word. and He told me to promise my mom but i dont think shell believe me again
You are living with your parents so you must live by their rules but your parents seem very uneducated. Your dad asked for only .org sites and he gave you a .gov site? Your dad copy and pasted that article from the National Institute of Drug Abuse. http://www.nida.nih.gov/infofacts/marijuana.html Your parents most likely do not understand how bad the government is losing the War On Drugs. Just reading that site I noted several facts that were extremely misleading to outright incorrect. You may want to show them norml.org and several of the WebMD articles. With the limited research the government allows there is not a lot of conclusive evidence to fully support some of the claims but THC may fight certain cancers and is a bronchodiator.
The guy who wrote the book I told you to get for him is not a smoker. Tell him if he is not going to take you seriously, how are you supposed to take him seriously? The basic fallacy he is using is that authority equals truth. The guy could take heroin and eat babies, but that would not affect whether or not he makes good points. I heard about the book by hearing an interview with the author, not on a hippie forum or a norml ad, but on "The Faith Middleton Show" which runs on WNPR in connecticut. It is a serious book backed up with the latest research, and a book every parent in the country should read. I think in the end, you have already lost because you want them to get you a car. You are bargaining. You will lose. That may not be the end of the world though, because your parents don't seem really serious about making sure you are free from addiction. What they really want is to be able to deny you are smoking weed. So either stop smoking weed, or lie.
Marco- thanks for the info. My dads like "the gov uses doctors and scientific studies to bring us these facts", if i tell him some of those are wrong hes not gonna believe me. And anywhere i would get info to fight against that article would be wrong in his eyes because its not from "the doctors and studies" lieng makes me feel so fucking bad it like tears me apart, but its my body and i should be able to do what i want with it i already promised him id stop, now im thinking about my possibilities i could smoke only on weekends and drink alot of cranberry and hope that lets me pass IF they test me (if worst comes to worst) i could stop and start back up when i turn 18 but that would mean id have to stop hanging out with all my friends and change my lifestyle completly, i wouldnt even know where to start or i smoke only on weekends and try to cheat the test with people who dont smoke's urine like i did last time and/or buy the detox pill and take it when i suspect the test is coming
the detox pill is a scam and is no more effective than water alone. It may have a diuretic which just makes you pee more so you drink more water. You get the same effect from tea or coffee. Remember, the test is not looking for THC, it is looking for metabolites. Nothing will get rid of those, except time and water. Bitter greens are generally good for stimulating the liver as long as you taste them on the way down. Lying tears you up inside? Really? You will have to learn at some point that people need and want you to lie, whether they admit it or not. If you have a partner, you may be asked "do these jeans make me look fat?". The answer is "no". The answer is never "no, honey, the fat you put on since we started dating makes you look fat. The jeans just make you look fatter". The latter is probably more truthful, and many people will tell you they would rather hear the truth. But tell them the truth and everyone will regret it. Life is hard, and when you turn 18 it won't get any easier. Where are they drug testing you, by the way? I was a complete dick at your age, and if my parents had tried testing me I would have just dropped some bleach in the test. Of course, I had my own income stream from dealing, and I was generally out of control. I would never let my own kids get to that point. Try this: "Dad, you sent me to school where I was taught to analyze scientific claims, and based on what I have learned the NIDA site does not pass muster. Your credibility is important to me, and I would like to be able to trust you, but you seem to willing to accept shaky evidence, and that leads me to question you in other areas where I formerly trusted your judgement. Can we review the body of evidence together before coming to a conclusion instead of talking past each other? I promise to be open minded. Perhaps we could both consult an objective source, like a doctor or university professor with no vested interest in the conclusion. I'd love to believe the government, but recent events have led me to believe our government is less than credible when it comes to health issues. In fact, the FDA is currently under investigation for ethics shortfalls." If that doesn't work, you are stuck dude. All hope is not lost, by the way. I'm sure your friends won't kick you out of the group for not smoking.
tx for ur help maryjohn, i understand the part about lying, i mean if i told him the truth, that i wasnt planning on quiting then whats gna happen is, hes gna be sad, im gna b sad, and im not gna hve a car (most likely, hed prolly still help me get it but hes using it against me in this case) no ones happy and that paragraph im gna keep just incase i need it someday once again, thank you. every bit of help, helps =]
Since I started smoking, my asthma attacks have dropped to no more than one per month, and I used to have a BAAAAAAAD asthma attack every couple weeks. I'm 18, a responsible adult, I don't give herb to minors or buy for minors, I don't deal, and I never buy more than 1/2 at a time. I have a $15 per hour pay rate plus profit sharing. My job has flexible scheduling. My trainer made six figures his first year. I recently stopped smoking since I moved in with my parents for a while, however... Before that I was smoking daily, at least twice daily, since mid-June. Show your parents that you can smoke and still be successful. Oh, and I've never done harder drugs, the "gateway drug" spiel is all bullshit. It's only a gateway if you allow it to be. i.e., don't be an idiot, and you'll be fine. The DEA hates drugs, all drugs... Basically, they want to make money on the drug war, and they'll do anything to do that. They won't allow studies, even when it shows a lot of promise to treat mental illnesses, cancer, asthma... Hell, I even read a study once that shows it's good for ADHD. How about them apples? Furthermore, it increased my metabolism to the point where I could eat until my stomach was ready to burst, and still lost eight pounds within two weeks, and that was without any exercise since I sat in a chair all day at my job. I didn't need my anxiety pills anymore, and I didn't have the chronic insomnia that I've dealt with for years on end... I'm 18... Think about it. I've had insomnia since I was like, 10. Think about getting less than seven hours of sleep every night, usually less than six. That's over the course of eight years... I'm also bipolar, and was on antipsychotics... Well, I couldn't afford the prescriptions for my meds, weaned myself off... I had been smoking... Guess what? I was fine without my meds... until last week when I moved in with my parents and had to stop smoking for a while... I had to go right back on them, and my blood pressure is slowly rising... My metabolism has faltered, and it takes hours to digest anything... Keep reading. I'm on my way up the ladder and have been since I scored my first job in June. I started smoking not long after. (I hated that job...) I was being paid $9.25 an hour to get bitched at by angry customers all day... Now I'm in sales, and making 15 an hour plus 15% profit sharing on all sales that I make... Now, sit back and imagine that... My trainer made six figures his first year. A friend of his goes the extra mile and pulls in around six Gs per week. Now, that's around $312,000 annually. I have a chance at that kind of money making... and I smoke marijuana. When my psychotic neighbor was harassing me all the time, scaring the shit out of my girlfriend and myself, nightly I heard him either fucking his girlfriend or beating on her, he was a total nutjob... Well, smoking kept me from going and breaking a wine bottle over his head... It kept the stress down. One last thing... My doctor freaked about five months ago when I was in... My blood pressure was at like, 145 over 100, and she said I might have to be put on a regimen, alter my diet, and take blood pressure meds. Well, then I started smoking... My blood pressure dropped to the point where the Systolic pressure was just a tick below normal, diastolic was dead on the money for a normal adult. You know what happens when you get high blood pressure? You can get angry... You can make roid rage look pleasant.. and I did, until I started smoking. In so many ways, marijuana has saved my life. Here's the best part. My mother doesn't care as long as I don't smoke in her house or come home blazed. She said it's my choice. If I fuck up, it's my fault. If I do fine, then that's wonderful. Right now, I'm still doing damn fine, and I owe my sanity over the last two months to a lovely little plant called Mary Jane.
Penny, have you tried a vaporizer? Over time the irritating effect of your smoking may fuck with your breathing more than you think, especially if you have asthma. Last year I was coughing up blood and like an idiot I kept smoking my bong. I wasn't getting better until I quit smoking altogether and got a vaporizer. It shouldn't bother the other occupants of the house. They won't even know you are "smoking". As for you metabolism... get back to us in 10 or 15 years. I never believe an 18 year old male has any clue what a slow metabolism is. At some point, for me it was 26, it's like you hit a wall. BOOM! Next thing you know you are fucking fat. It took me ALOT of work to get down to pre hitting the wall weight, smoke or no smoke.
