emo is definately not something i care for, but hey if they want to run around singing about how bad their life is, and dress in girl clothes then hey, sure thing.

but what really gets to me is when fuckers call me emo, thats just not right. blech.

    give me a break.

i cant believe i'm on these music forums again. i shall be leaving now, hopefully never to return.
all that ever goes on here is either arguing or 'whats your fave?!!!!???!?!'

I love how people define "emo" as "emotional" music, so what about the millions of other genres out there? Are they not emotional too?

I personally think that new(er) emo bands like Bright Eyes are horrible (Conor Oberst's voice drives me absolutely off the wall). But thats my opinion, not yours, so please respect that.

First Wave emo bands that had close ties to hardcore bands are awesome. Rites of Srping, Fugazi, Embrace,(some)7 Seconds and Texas is the Reason are a few to name.

    emo just sucks

lol my ex girlfriend(still my friend) just became the singer in an emo band. I was like why?!!! Her response was she just performed her first gig in moncton and made 400 bucks. I was like way to "sell out". I wouldnt sing in an emo band for any amoutn of money. I'd rather work for two weeks making car reservations for budget to make 400$ than sell out to an emo band for one night.

EMO music just purely sucks! They just bitch, whine, and complain in their songs. Don't you just want to shave them and send them to the army?

Panic! At The Disco is the worst

    Umm...
I don't know how is "emo". I suppose that this music is not popular here (I'm from Argentina...).
Either way, maybe I can figure it.

When I was younger, I'll admit that I bought into the semantics of "Emo". I played emo game, I owned a messenger bag, and grew my hair into ackward shapes which constricted my vision. When you're 15, living in Lancaster, PA, you get alot of positive female attention when you're like that, so I guess that's my excuse, sorry as it is. Emo is not the voice of the unheard youth, it's the voice of the manipulative young males who can't cut it in sports. As soon as girls stop gushing over pale skin, greasy hair, and psuedo-sensitivity, emo will die, and a new way for young boys to get laid will arise.

    first of all..

    what...the.. fuck? punk?

anyways, emo derived from hardcore punk (or post-hardcore) in the 80's by some of the key artists that dominated the Washington DC punk-scene, because they wanted to try to take hardcore in a new directon (if they only knew what it would eventually lead to..)

emo originally stood for emotive hardcore, or emocore. emo bands quickly got known for having very intense shows; many vocalists started to cry during the shows because they felt so connected with the music, audience etc.

but i guess that when people think of emo, they think of the awful fashion trend or whatever, the (horrible) music and the stereotypes that has emerged with third wave emo. i guess you could say the emo movement is a testimony on the power and influence MTV retains.

idk there are some good emo bands/songs.. i like brand new a lot, their second album deja entendu is a real good cd. they're first cd is kind of more stereotypical emo, still good songs and shit but the 2nd cd is on a much deeper level musically and lyrically. wehn your just fucked up drivin around at the end of a party or something and yoru smokin a blunt and shit some fall out boy songs are good adn taking back sunday can be good sometimes. tahts about the limit tho alot of that shit is disposable music.

Emo is one of the worst things to happen to music in recent memory...
It essentially took all the crappy music genres it could find: pop-punk, fake-goth, whiny indy rock, and mushed them all together into a big whiny, mopey, worthless mess. The music is wretched, the bands are ridiculous, and the fans are all painfully annoying.
Thankfully the fad is beginning to fade, as former emo-bands are beginning to inch away from that crap. Coheed&Cambria were once the Hulk Hogan of emo, but their new album was a progressive rock epic, and excellent at that. Jimmy Eat World were considered founding fathers of emo, though their most recent release was anything but. Most emo bands only exist for a month or two before breaking up anyway, and generally by the time you've seen the name of an emo band on the too-tight hoodie of some asshat teenage boy with girl jeans and a terrible haircut, that band has long since vanished.
Unfortunately emo managed to decimate what was left of the true punk and goth scenes, while also setting alternative rock back a good decade or so. Not to mention the fact that thanks to this "genre" and all the goddamn Hot Topics around now, the average 'local scene' is more akin to a pre-teen depression clinic with bad fashion sense.
Emo kids generally pretend to know a lot about pain and torment, and love to be big drama queens about such TERRIBLE woes as "My parents suck!" , "School sucks!", and "My girlfriend of 3 days broke up with me, life is over."(Alternatively: "I can't get girls the universe hates me" - but this is more for Linkin Park fans).
Well, to any emo kids still out there - the pain ends after the third glass of drano.

I see Emo as the Hair Bands of the 2000's.

I'm just waiting for the new Kurt Cobain to make it all go away.
