considering the time humans have been drilling oil. This spill would be the size of a soda can, compared to the amount of oil spilled in the oceans since the oil production began.. in a way its like a spot on your shirt., If you can cover the spot with a tie nobody will notice or depending where the spot is...
the spot this has made is WAY to big to cover up in any form or fashion it's gonna take so much to clean up and so many many years before well idk, i don't think this is reversible for a long ass time, if ever. alaska is still affected by the exxon valdez oil spill which is over 20 years ago...and this current spill shit man idk sorry your post rubbed me the wrong way
Discussing that is pure distraction IMO--- fanning outrage in order to cultivate support for god-knows-what. BP is actively working on the issue... are they doing enough? Not being an expert in that field I cannot say with any credibility whether whether there is more that could be done on their end. I see a lot of rhetoric and posturing in Washington- largely devoid of substance and more akin to a puppet show to lull the public into thinking they are doing something useful when in fact it seems that they are perpetrating a huge distraction for the entity most active in trying to mitigate the disaster... and putting BP in a position where, whether or not they are actually doing enough, they will have to expend considerable resources trying to restore their image.... assuming the company survives this at all. It looks a bit like they are trying to hound Hayward into a resignation... but I wonder where forcing a leadership change on top of continually assailing them but keeping them on trial in the court of public opinion will impact their efforts in not only stopping the leak, but cleaning up the Gulf and taking care of the people and businesses hurt by this.
oh no, it didnt rub you the wrong way. you said exactly what I wanted you to say.. the new fashion statement.. ALTERNATIVE ENERGY!! BP did this to us, time to do it to them.. Force your goverements to support ALTERNATIVE ENERGY!!! Even if you have to spill oil on your state capitols steps to do it..
Found it sad that the CEO of BP decided to go out to watch some british yacht races today instead of hanging around to work on the problem....
Well that really depends on your perspective doesn't it. Sure it is a horrible mess and the damage being done is horrendous to the local environment. But, on the other hand the planet did survive at least one asteroid strike that wiped out most life on earth didn't it. Humans and local flora and fauna may be getting it in the rear presently from this, but as far as the Earth is concerned it's rather insignificant. It is all a matter of perspective.
There's colors of oil sheen Red, purple and blue Pelicans shufflin' their feet Pelicans stepping in their gooo But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead There's a lot of people sayin' BP would be better off dead Don't feel like cleaning, but I am So I try to forget it, any way I can cleaning oil off the beach shore cleaning oil off the beach shore cleaning oil off the beach shore I see a woman in the night With a oily rags in her hand its an endless fight doing the best they can Now she puts the rags away, and she's hates this shit She hetes this life, and what they've done to it There's one more turtle that will never go to school Never get to to lay eggs, never get to be cool. cleaning oil off the beach shore cleaning oil off the beach shore cleaning oil off the beach shore We got a thousand miles of shore For the homeless duck We got a kinder, gentler, but the Businessman dont give a FUCK!! But, as shown here petroleum is not just used for fuel. :coffee:
You forgot the one that most likely accounts for most of the non-fuel oil usage... Coffee Whitener...
I am aware of that. As I said, that one is the one that likely accounts for most of the usage. It may not seem like a huge thing, but consider this... In the US alone, th average coffee consumption is around 3.1 cups per day... 300 million people... thats almost a BILLION cups of coffee.. If we guess that half of them use cream or whitener... say half of that being oil based creamers... that comes to about 84 billion 'portions' per year... Figure at least half of that is in restaurants using those little plastic containers (which are also made from oil)... Plus they all have to be transported (more oil) to the restaurants, and then the containers taken either to a landfill or a recycling center, using yet more oil.... As I said, I pointed it out specifically, because it is likely the highest usage of oil that isn't for fuel...
