As far as 57 vs. 87 goes, I've heard more better things about the 57, but I suppose 87 would be better for acoustic.
No, dude, trust me... the U87 is awesome. I mean, there are more uses for a 57, I suppose, but the 87 sounds really good. There's a reason engineers pay $2,000 or whatever to get it.
