Your explanation in itself confused me... because you've contradicted yourself. If you truly believed that there was no afterlife or god, I don't think you'd be tossing around the idea that if you decide to deny god, that you may possibly be damned. If you think by doing this, if there is in fact a god, that you may just send yourself straight to hell... Then maybe you simply just need to look into other religions. Maybe the certain religion you were raised with isn't something you agree with, but nonetheless it appears to me that you believe in something... and to deny the fact that you do simply because the religion you grew up with may seem fucked up to you, is of course going to confuse you.

You don't exactly CHOOSE what you believe in...beliefs, in my opinion, are something that come naturally to you, and something you can't just change. You can't grow up SINCERELY and GENUINELY believing a god exists, and one day decide that you're just going to chage that and not believe in it....

In the first sentence you state that if a god doesn't exist that you don't care, but the rest of your writings seemed as if you do in fact care. This is something I suppose you're just going to have to find in yourself and debate with for awhile...

lol, i love the fact that you said that... my boyfriend's mum is atheist and said basically the same thing... "If there is a hell, well fuck, I'd rather go to hell anyway. It's warmer there and all my friends will be there." lol, i love her.

That's according to Dante's Inferno, and his nine circles of Hell. The first circle of hell, Limbo, is where all the "virtuous nonbelievers" and "unbaptized children" go, and there isn't any punishment there. Dante described it as "a castle with seven walls," with lush meadows and forests and such. It is "illuminated by the light of reason, wherein many shades dwell," and is supposed to be peaceful, yet also sad.

If you consider that to be the first circle of Hell, and you haven't done anything to get into the other levels, it doesn't seem like a bad place to live. I'd rather live there anyway, rather than have a fake happiness imposed on me in heaven. =)

You also have to consider that "Dante's Inferno" Was just a sub-book of the trilogy "The Divine Comedy". Basically, like the greek who realised Tragedy and Comedy were the same thing seen from different perspectives, you are supposed to eventually learn that the holy concept of hell is a joke. From the perspective of one who does not know God, it is tragedy- from the perspective of someone who truly knows God- hell is a joke.

Which is a good reason to get to know God before God unleashes God's sick twisted sense of humor on you. Everyone is gonna go to hell, but hopefully they all get it, cuz there's gonna be laughter in heaven when you do.

Which is interesting..Because occam does not know your god.
Yet he does not consider hell to be either of those things.

To occam.....Hell is a word to to frighten children.
A tool used by religion to manipulate the unquestioning...

But also..Humanity has always needed a dark/hot/cold unpleasant
place to send enemies to..Even if just in expletive.
"Go to hell.." However is'nt much of an expletive any more.

So what is hell [and heaven, the reflection] becoming?
    Just another Valhalla
    Another Elysium

To fall mostly forgotten into antiquity as a thing of myth
as we shuck off the childish fears of the dark. [ignorance]

    Kharakov,
are you trying to say that any religion that believes in a God does not believe in a hell? Maybe I've misunderstood, but I was raised in a Catholic family and was forced to attend all the bullshit... I think I understand a bit about it, and according to the church I had to go to... Hell was considered a sure, real place...
But, maybe I have misunderstood, and if so, I'm sorry for explaining for absolutely no reason at all.
