lunarverse should work for a PR firm as he didn't say all BBC shows were better than those in North America...he said: a lot of
To be fair, North America would win because of the sheer amount of output that they produce.
The BBCs reputation is probably due to such entities as the world service, foreign language broadcasting and past glories rather than the current state of the BBC output.
I'd like lunarverse to tell us what great programmes we have, though.
Perhaps we are too blasé about how good it is.

Have you ever seen the series 'Days that shook the world'? I bought it on dvd because we don't get it here. It's a fantastic show.

To be honest I can't name off a lot of shows. I've just noticed that anytime TVO (who plays British broadcasting every night) plays some good documentary or show about history, it's always a BBC show. It's refreshing to watch a show that isn't about fake cop drama or bimbos with fake tits.

My favourite thing about watching a BBC program is the lack of adverts

I've watched it before, but not by choice.

This is true, the documentaries and drama shows are of a high quality.

Plus Doctor Who and Gavin and Stacey are great shows, though I would say that, I live where they are filmed.

I might have seen some of it. Looking into it, it is a fair few years old.
    My memory isn't that good.

You are not being fair. I'm quite sure there are some fantastic US history documentaries.
Are you suggesting US networks such as NBC ABC etc don't produce any decent history documentaries?
Also remember you are getting what the BBC considers the cream of their crop.

:2thumbsup: I'll give the BBC that one. I love that show.
Well, I do like them at the time.
I can't really enjoy them the second time around.
mmm, there is a pattern developing here.

Craig Ferguson mentions that all the time, I keep meaning to check it out.

I wasn't comparing British history shows to American ones. I was comparing the subject matter. Besides, we all know American history is waayyy cooler, what with the A bomb, G.I. Joe, helping out south Vietnam, and how they came in later on in WWI and saved us all.

You and I have covered this subject before, about American tv /American history shows.

All I was really alluding to is that most American networks produce pure crap such as; Two and a half men, Gilmore Girls :D, CSI, Are you smarter than a fifth grader?, and hundreds of other terrible sitcoms.

I have yet to see a BBC equivalent of any of these shows, but perhaps they do exist.

    I would.

    It didn't feel like that.

Well, you've probably picked your least favourite shows from a wide variety of US networks. The BBC does produce some crap sitcoms.
The BBC doesn't have equivalent to Two and a half men, Gilmore Girls because they are too expensive to produce.
I'm quite sure if we swapped places your love affair with the BBC would diminish within a month.

    This was my original statement.

Again, I'm not comparing their history shows. All I said was that I enjoy some of the BBC history shows I watch on TVO and I think that they're better than a lot of American (general subject matter) shows.

Of course, if I was talking about good shows we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place.

Maybe. And love affair? Hardly.

Too confusing, bro, and not worth the headache.
Lets agree to disagree on that point.

Try and think "on balance" rather than picking and choosing then.

There certainly felt like there was love in the air.

To me those 3 are funnier than about 95% of the crap I see on American TV. I should also throw in A bit of Fry and Laurie, and Black Adder.

Granted the only 2 times I must watch tv are to see The Simpsons, The Cleveland Show, The Family Guy, American Dad, House and Lie to me. That's only about 2 nights a week. Ironically, they're all on Fox a network that besides showing propaganda as news has made a name for itself for showing British people acting like total cunts (See Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsey, Hugh Laurie, and Tim Roth).

I like all the British shows you mentioned.
But like I've said earlier, sit and watch our TV for a month and you'll feel differently.
It's nice that we both get the better shows available in both our countries.
We should be grateful for that.
But, I'd love to have access to US tv in it's entirety. .

Hugh Laurie and Tim Roth ? Why? (The others I agree...add Jamie Oliver too)

as an american i envy completely your tv, i mean the comedy alone is so much better, and of all things slightly more believable (along the lines of the lack of language censorship). i mean granted americans have so much shit television along the lines of reality nonsense and gameshow garbage. but you are hard pressed to find a live action sitcom type comedy without a dreaded laugh track. as an american its embarrassing to see such a shit show like, say, two and a half men watching it with a stone face, then hop online and laugh my nuts off at Peep Show, the Green Wing, or Spaced.

    to: America
    From: and American
    Shame on you

Just the charachters they play on their respective shows. I think Hugh Laurie and Tim Roth are both fucking brilliant. The shows that they have on Fox have them playing asshole charachters.
