That's why I don't live in N. America anymore and live, camp and breathe in points further south and will continue to do so. Canada and America are regulated police states, America has the largest number of people in prison per capita compared to any other country. It's much worse in the cities of course, but It's a shame that you can't even go to the forest or desert in N. America and be free of this regulation and oppression. When I camp and live in wildlands, I don't want any other people harassing me, I only want to be with my friends and family if I have company, I don't want any stranger coming out to my little spot in the bush and telling me what to do, interrupting my sacred relation between me and the land, slapping fines on me for making a cooking fire or telling me that my human right to camp free in the bush is taxable and costs money (!!!???), etc. To me that is a load of crap, it's all about control and paying homage to the nobles, it has nothing to do with conservation or anything like that. It ruins the camping and wilderness experience. In Canada and the U.S.,wilderness lands are full of wildlife cops running around the woods trying to harass and fine fishermen and hunters and their families in an attempt to fill their quotas. There are still many places in the world where you can hunt for your meat, enjoy the solitude and peace of wildlands and not be harassed by such people.
Yeah, the nerve of those damn harrassment cops ... not letting 50 bazillion dudes with Rambo complexes loose in the woods. Nobody said you can't hunt. But there are 300 million people in this country and they live everywhere. The wildlife doesn't. If every wannabe Daniel Boone with a rifle went around shooting up anything that moves, what do you suppose would be the result, before long? We've seen before what you guys are capable of. You won't regulate yourselves, so somebody else has to. It's those little "sacred campfires" of yours that burn down forests. It's drunken rednecks that shoot up ranchers' livestock and endangered species because they don't have the sense to do it right. Here's a newsflash ... you don't have a "human right" to camp anywhere you want and do anything you want. If you lived in 1800, it would be a different story. But you don't. And despite your apparent belief to the contrary, the rules apply to you too. And what the hell does the prison population got to do with it? Exactly how is a boatload of idiots who think they'll be the one who gets away with sticking up a 7-11 relevant to wildlife populations? Your logic is as faulty as your knowledge of conservation.
If you are having to deal with the MNR, then you're just too close. They don't care about the people living out in isolation, They do care about the drunks who go and destroy the enviroment though (the places where other people like to frequent). I personally have zero fear of the MNR officers because there is nothing but forgotten wilderness where I go. You are not running into an officer out that far.
