Is that how you experience life personally, like directly, or indirectly by taking notice of other happenings in the world?

That is unfortunate, neo. I never saw people stabbed to death with a pitchfork or watched anyone burn to death directly with my own two eyes. Not sure that if I saw it happen I would be convinced this life is as terrible as eternal torment either.

You didn't enjoy being a dung beetle? :p

Its interesting looking into the 5 great ape families as to what was necessary to evolve.

Basically chimps were too violent and not social enough to ever evolve further, Bonobos too social, just sit around rooting all the time thus never evolved past one little spot in central africa with an abundance of food, Orangutans too solitary, Gorillas too big and dont breed fast enough.

Humans, as messed up as they are, are in that goldilocks range in a whole bunch of areas that all came together and meant we could develop more efficient brains over a couple hundred thousand years.

If humans were too violent we wouldnt have gotten past a certain stage of evolution like our chimp cousins

Same could be said if humans were too peaceful, we'd still be where the bonobos are

it is true that we breed much too rapidly, for a species that had come to live as long as we have, and pay far too little attention to our choices where we are going. how those choices are made, and how each of us contributes to making them. there is nothing built in, to ourselves or our world, that requires the latter oversight. as to the former, we need to put something in the water to lower human fertility.

He doesn't deserve to be killed and get a John Lennon-like status. Not sure Lennon deserved it either though (hippie blasphemy i know!) :p

  14. Sometimes I can't sleep because I'm lying awake laughing hysterically at how awesome humans are. I don't know who is crazier, me or you.

Humans are fantastic beings. Being more aware is what would make all humans more humane. People buy into idea's to become less aware, so they can rest easy. No idea, religion or political philosophy should rest easy. No human can buy into these and rest easy. Gotta be aware of flaws in all ideas, so we can grow and remain intelligent.

It took billions of years for human life to appear in the universe. Whilst I agree that we have fucked up as a species in many ways, I don't see it as all negative or hopeless.

Human life and culture could change. At this point in our history we are learning enough about things like biology, psychology, earth sciences etc where for the first time we might have some chance of beginning to organize ourselves in a better ways. In past ages we were extremely ignorant about most things.

It would be a shame if the depressives and the unimaginative were to wipe us out right now - just when we may be on the cusp of something much better.

There's a lot of negative things and a huge momentum towards disaster - but as a race we have faced near wipe outs in previous epochs and come back.

i'll leave it to nature and self destructive cultural values, to do the job, at only the personal risk of being surrounded by both.
whatever people think they know, humanity can't and won't exist without the support of nature.
the very thing cultural backward headedness, is systematically destroying.
it would really not help the process for everyone to go around killing each other, nor do i have any wish to live in a world where everyone did.
we are changing the climate by our thoughtlessness. this will bring about famine and disease. this will correct human overpopulation.
tragically and painfully. or we could choose culturally, statistically, to be less destructive,
by lowering our birthrate and turning to noncombustive means to power technology and transportation.

how humanity will avoid destroying itself entirely, if it does, is a fascinating thing to the rest of the universe to watch.
only those worlds that have found some way of doing so themselves, have the means of doing so.
